looking for info. regarding Moons in the Ardkill(glendermott) area in the 1850-60's. John (worked as a gardener)and Margaret (nee Sherrard). Thank you.

Hello tofrek,
What denomination were the Moon family?
You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hello Christopher
The Moons were Congregationalists. John Moon and Margaret Jane Moon(nee Sherrard) had at least one son, James, born in 1867 in Ardkill, Glendermott. James lived most of his life in Coleraine. I am very anxious to learn more about John and Margaret and their respective histories. Thank You for any help in this regard.

Tofrek- my friend never responded to my requests for more information on the Moons although I do believe that she or the person she was doing the looking for do have more details than I made note of a while ago.

Hello tofrek,
I've sent you a PM.
I hope the info helps with your search.

Looking for information on my grandfather John Caldwell Clements and his connection to the Moon family. The only info I have is that James Moon was listed as his cousin on the ships (S.S. Camaronia) manifest when he visited in October of 1922. My grandfather listed Main street Clogher, Tyrone County as his last permanent residence in Ireland and his residence in the U.S. was Gutenberg, New Jersey. the James Moon he visited was listed as Eskernabrogue, Clogher, Tyrone County. Any info is appreciated as I cannot trace the Clements back to Tyrone and there seems to be more info on the Moons in this area. I have also have identified connections with the Cauley's in Ballinrees, Macosquin.

Hi Robert Richards, I have some more information on your grandfather John Caldwell Clements if you or anyone would like to get in touch. Thanks Christine

John Caldwell Clements is from one of the Clements families living in the townland of Fernaghandrum in Tyrone. His brother Thomas died on 31st December 1921 and the paperwork from the administration is available at PRONI. It mentions John Caldwell Clements in this paperwork and so connects him to the townland of Fernaghandrum.
His brothers were Robert Brown Clements and Thomas Clements. He also had two sisters Margaret Isabella and Matilda Jane.
His father John died on 26th July 1885. His mother Jane died 3rd October 1890
Hopefully Robert Richards or someone in his family will find this and get in touch.
Many thanks
Christine

I think the link to John Caldwell Clements may in fact be to a person called James Moore rather than James Moon based on the surnames on the townland of Eskermabrogue. When i search irish geneology site for the name Moon the alternative is "Moan" but looks like Moore would also be a good alternative surname to search as it does look very similar in handwriting.

This is him in the 1901 census, a farmer.
