Can anyone give me any help on the following.
My great grandfather arrived in New Zealand by himself from Ireland 1862 aged 26 years,on the ship Indian Empire. Francis Marshall WINTER from Armagh Belfast Ireland On his death certificate it states he was the son of FRANCIS & MARGARET WINTER ( Nee MARSHALL )hence this where he got his middle name from.
No matter how hard I have delved/researched into various sites/archives etc I cannot find any more information on my greatgrandfather and I am afraid I have have come to a dead end.
Is there any known Birth records abt 1836 or marriage records for his parents, that are available or if anyone has access to them.
Have been searching for years

Do you have any of his childrens names (of Francis Marshall Winter) ?
There is an entry in Griffiths Valuation for Armagh (perhaps Francis Snr.) for a Francis Winters, Grange Lower, Newry,Co. Armagh. Marshalls are in the same townland.
There are other Winters in this townland, thus the reason I am asking for Francis Jnrs. Childrens names. Perhaps he named some of his sons after brothers.
I am wondering if ''Belfast'' was perhaps the port he left from?

Diane,
I dont know if there is a connection but my great, great grandmother was Anna Winters. She married James Haslett at Belfast 1865 and names her father on the marriage certificate as Francis Winters. She is on the 1901 census as living in Belfast but born in Portadown, County Armagh.
