Hi Bob,

I'm currently working on my gggrandfather, Thomas Garratty/Geraghty of the London 1851 census, born Westmeath circa 1821.  There is some reason to believe his mother was Catherine Hosey/Hussey and he came from Castlepollard but no proof and no known link to your Ann.

Nevertheless, I thought it was worth mentioning in case we can help one another as the search progresses.

Good luck,
Jack

Now back to Anne ---I had a look at the Irish family history society site played around with Anne Geraghty that would fit in with your time scale & found 7 ---here they are  born at Kinnegad, Anne born 1843 father Andrew,Anne born 1844 father John,Anne born1848 father Thomas.Born at Kilbeggan Anne  born 1844 father Patrick.Born Ballinabrackey Anne born 1846 father John.Born at Mullingar  Anne  born 1847 father Thomas (maybe your Anne!!!!!) Hi Shieldslad,

The recent post regarding your Ann Geraghty by 'Notinpastyet' caused me to review my original response of 9 Feb '07 & I should point out that I've unearthed additional information since then - though not concerning your Ann directly.

As your Ann & my Thomas were both born in Westmeath & Irish records are so sparse, the exchange of information among Geraghty researchers may be one of our best resources.

So, here's mine:  I located the marriage cert of my Thomas in London in May of 1846 & it lists his father as Peter, a weaver.  Thomas's bride, Elizabeth Sookin was born in London in 1818 BUT her mother, Ellen Seokin was born in Ireland, according to the 1841 census.  Ellen's late husband was Patrick Seokin, a cowkeeper & while I have no birthplace for him, it's very likely that he, like his wife, came from Ireland.  That's all I have to date, I'm afraid.

Do you have any other known Geraghtys in Westmeath, in addition to Ann?  While it may not appear useful just now, I would appreciate having the names on file in case something turns up later.

Also, Thanks Notinpastyet - every little bit helps.

Regards,
Jack

I see there's a lot of people searching for various Anne Geraghtys. The Anne Geraghty I'm looking for married Thomas Beglin in 1866. They're children were Thomas, Patrick, Simon, John, Andrew, Judith, and Patrick. They lived in Mabestown Co. Westmeath. If anyone has info on this Anne Geraghty that would be awesome. thanks

I am looking for information about Ann Geraghty, c.1812 or 1817. Married Patrick Walsh from Duncran, Co. Galway, on 29 August, 1837 at Grisborough. He appears to have been her second husband. Her first husband was a John Clarkin, a soldier. They (John and Ann) had two children Thomas and Susannah, and they (the children) were the first Clarkins to set foot in New Zealand in October, 1847. I particularly would like to find out what happened to John Clarkin. Thank you.

hi all,

A Catherine Geraty is listed as a baptismal sponsor for ancestor Edward Francis "Ned" Greene's in Sept 1877 in Moyvore Parish. There is a Catherine Hannon listed for an earlier siblings baptism. Does a Catherine Hannon who married a Geraty sound familiar to anyone ?

Sorry, not familiar to me. I have decided that that my Ann Geraghty was not married to my ancestor, John Clarkin. I previously thought that she might have been his first wife. Indications are that this is incorrect. It would appear that she and her husband, Patrick Walsh, accompanied John Clarkin's children, Thomas (10) and Susan(nah) (5) to New Zealand in 1847. I believe the Clarkin parents died prior to this and Patrick and Ann bought the orphaned children to New Zealand.
