Title: Brooklyn districts.
Post by: tracyc on Friday 03 November 06 20:26 GMT (UK)
Thank you to Agnes and Indi. i opened up a map and went through the district kings 1-250. Looked for a Lafayette ave brooklyn. Located it in a few district numbers 104 in particular. The trouble i'm having now is the road goes to house number 466 on distict 104 pg 18 and 448a on pg 17. Now i'm looking for number 445 and it just seems to have disappered off the face of the earth.I've gone through the districts with lafayette ave page by page. Quite alot of pages i may add. Lost count after 50. Can any one help me locate this address. It just doesn't seem to exist on paper. I've trailed through so many pages to no avail. Feel like i live in new york now i know it so well.

Please anyone help.   :( :( :(

Hi Tracy.

I'm new to the board, but I live in Brooklyn and know where Lafayette Ave. is. If you give me the year, name and address I can recheck it for you.  I do a lot of work on ancestry.com and genealogy.com and have found that sometimes a doublecheck is helpful.

Thank you very much Margot for your offer. The addy is 445 Lafayette ave, brooklyn. I'm looking for Elizabeth Frasier she was at this addy in 1931. She should be about 20 in the 1930 census. Her job on her marriage in 1931 was a looper if that helps.
Thanks again.

Hi Tracy,

I'll do some checking and get back to you.  Hopefully, I'll be able to add something new.

Hi Tracy,

Well, I checked the 1930 census on Ancestry. com and couldn't find any Elizabeth Frasier listed for the 455 Lafayette Avenue.  If that was her address in 1931, it could mean that she wasn't living at that address at the time of the 1930 census.

Do you know what year she immigrated? And, if deceased, did she die in the States.  I might be able to find something in the social security database.  Also is Frasier her married or maiden name?

Here's a link for a yahoo map of 455 Lafayette Avenue.  Just paste it in. That street number is located in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn.  Back in the 1920s and 30s it was a nice working/middle class area then went to seed by the 1960s. But it's now on the upswing.

Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.
