Title: Marriage in Northbourne - WANSTALL
Post by: BettyofKent on Tuesday 31 October 06 21:40 GMT (UK)
If anyone has access to the Northbourne Parish registers, I would be grateful for the following look-up -
The marriage of Thomas Baldwin WANSTALL to Sarah?
The first child (that I know of) was born c1821 so I'm guessing the marriage would be about 1820.  Sarah was born abt 1790 in Northbourne.
Thanks in anticipation.

Thank you spongebob.  I've got the whole family from 1841 on, apart from Ann, who disappears after 1841. There are a few possible marriages for her but I can't find Ann born Northbourne + a possible spouse on 1851.
Sarah is my Gt gt gt grandmother, so it would be nice to have her maiden name & marriage date.

Betty

Hi, I am currently researching the history and families of Worth. Northbourne is one of the neighbouring villages. There are Wanstall family members buried at the church here in Worth, which is opposite my house. Let me know and I'll pop over and read further.

I would love to know the details of the Wanstalls buried in Worth.
Thank you for offering.

Worth Wanstalls are as follow's;

Gravestone 1
William Wanstall Snr (Late of this Parish) Died 20th Feb 1846, Aged 85yrs.
And
Sarah Wanstall, Died 20th ? this part of stone has broken off and gone.

Gravestone 2
William Wanstall (Late of this Parish) Died 15th November 1844, Aged 58 yrs.
And
Sarah Wanstall (Wife of the above) Died 15th March 1851, Aged 60 years

Both Buried in the Old Graveyard of St Peter and St Pauls Church, The Street, Worth.

Just like to add, I am sure there are Wanstalls buried in Eastry, next time I am over there I'll have a quick look. I'll also endeavour to have a look in Northbourne, as my children go to school there and regularly use Northbourne Church.

Regards
Claire

Hope it helps.

Hi Clare

Many thanks for that information.
Thank you for offering to look in Eastry & Northbourne, anything you can find will be useful.
And I forgot to say Welcome to Rootschat :)

Bill, anything you find will also be gratefully received.
A correction to my first post -
I now believe Thomas's correct name is Thomas Boulden Wanstall, not Baldwin

Thanks again to both of you.

Hi Betty

A quick bit of information for you.

Just walking through the Worth Graveyard. At the side of the two Wanstall graves that I sent details of, I've just noticed a very old one, half of it missing...

A 'Betty Wanstall'

Regards
Claire

Thanks Claire.

I've just noticed you are researching Redsull in Deal. Half my father's family came from Deal, & I know the name, so I expect my lot knew your lot :)

Hi Betty, do you have any dates for these names. My grandfather Bobbie Redsull is still alive, about 200 years old but breathing, bless him.

Born and bred in the Northend of Deal, he may well remember some of these nicknames and their meaninings.

Just been browsing the www, and came across a website that may well help you in your quest for Wanstalls (There are also alot of Terry's on this site) all local.

The original link I had, doesnt appear to work anymore (even though I only found the site not 5 minutes ago) the only link it has that appears to work is below! but this just appears to be a census record. Luckily I had the sense to save the birth, deaths/burial, marriages onto my computer for this surrounding area early 1800's to 1900+. so if you would like them, I could email you them betty.

link is http://www.sartorelli.gen.nz/census/censusfirst.php  [/url]

Hi Clare

For some reason I didn't see your last message on this thread.
I've only just noticed it as I've now found the marriage of Thomas & Sarah & was going to mark this thread as completed.

I wish I knew more about those nicknames. My Dad compiled a long list, but no dates, I'm guessing most would be about mid 1900s back to the 1800s.

If you have anything on the Wanstalls I would be very pleased to receive it.

Betty

Thank you casalguidi, that does look like her.
I remember looking at the 1851 census & discounting it as the place of birth was wrong, (not being very experienced at searching the records back then, I didn't realise this was not unusual) & I didn't bother to search further forward.
I seem to have forgotten about her, but now I've got something to work on.
Thanks again.

Hi Claire

Thanks for that baptism. I'll make a note of it, although I'm not sure if that is my Ann Wanstall at the moment, she's bound to be one of mine somewhere along the line.
I've got four Ann Wanstalls so far, the family liked the name so I'm sure to find more ;D

Thanks again,
 :)

Hi,

I have been researching the WANSTALL name for many years and found your notes on the gravestones at Worth the other day. I was unable to relate the death of Sarah in 1851 to any of my records. The nearest I had found was in 1854. So I took myself of to Worth today to have a look for myself.
I have been studying the Gravestones at Ash (St. Nicholas) and have found that you have to look carefully at them in close up.
You will find that the date does read 1854, but only the vertical is cut to any depth on the 4 and from a distance it looks like a 1.
The "Betty" Stone is in fact for Mary the Wife of Petley WANSTALL. PETLEY is badly worn and does look like BETTY.
Behind the two William WANSTALL Stones are two further small Foot Stones that are both marked W W.
 W. W.   1816             And  W. W. unable to read.
 S.  W.   1831

Regards    Roger of Ash

Thank you for those corrections.
I haven't come across the name Petley yet, but I'll keep a note just in case.

Hi..trying to trace wife of Rev. Charles Luther Wanstall, son of Richard Wanstall Birth 1853 in Kingsley Rectory, Staffordshire, England, married in 1907,  Vicar in Butley, Suffolk, England...

There is a Probate of Will for a Rev Charles Luther Wanstall died Farnham, Surrey in 1941 with wife Alice Albina so is he the same Rev. Charles Luther Wanstall or were here two or more?

IF he is the same then he must have married again.

I am looking for death of Elizabeth Mary Wanstall and can appreciate I am in wrong county BUT hoping someone might be able to throw some light on (my) Rev. Charles Luther Wanstall after 1907 please.

I have him in 1861 Census etc but only connect after the 1907 marriage in Woburn to Elizabeth Mary.

Any clue appreciated, thank you.

Hi hallmark

These Wanstalls are not in my tree so far & I think it's unlikely they will be as my lot didn't seem to move away from East Kent. However, you never know what you will find with family history so if I do come across them I'll let you know.

Thank you Betty! Not sure what county to put him under with so many locations for him, even with the Probation of Will there could be more than one Rev. Charles Luther Wanstall!

Someday, somewhere someone might recognize my snippet! Not many posts for Wanstall hence my posting here...
