I have Isabella Lyle, born 1823, married to Peter Barbour.
She is related to famous Lyle family, sugar refiners, originally from Greenock.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Princess do you know if anyone called Tait/Tate is related to you ? My Grandma used to say that our family were related to the sugar people Buddie

I do not think so.

I also havd a wee bit of interest in the Lyle family of Greenock. As my notes are at home I believe that one of the Lyles, perhaps Abraham, married a Rebecca Macaulay. I am curious if anyone can tell me anything about Rebecca's parentage.
Many thanks, Paul

A very brief history of Tate & Lyle at:
http://www.tasteandsmile.co.uk/TasteAndSmile/Products/TateAndLyleStory/default.htm
A bit more detail here:

And quite a bit more here

Nowhere in the above does it mention a family connection between the two families.
