Title: Isabella Lyle
Post by: wearyprincess on Saturday 28 October 06 11:41 BST (UK)
I have Isabella Lyle, born 1823, married to Peter Barbour.

She is related to famous Lyle family, sugar refiners, originally from Greenock.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I also havd a wee bit of interest in the Lyle family of Greenock.  As my notes are at home I believe that one of the Lyles, perhaps Abraham, married a Rebecca Macaulay.  I am curious if anyone can tell me anything about Rebecca's parentage.

Many thanks, Paul

A very brief history of Tate & Lyle at:

http://www.tasteandsmile.co.uk/TasteAndSmile/Products/TateAndLyleStory/default.htm

A bit more detail here:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-514834/The-secrets-Lyles-Golden-Syrup-Britains-sweetest-success-story.html

And quite a bit more here

Nowhere in the above does it mention a family connection between the two families.
