I am researching the Paxford's from Stonesfield, please could you help.
I have Thomas Paxford b. c1781 Stonesfield married to Martha ?, their son was Benjamin b. 1831 married to Elizabeth Lanchbury, their son was also a Benjamin b.1863 in Idbury Oxfordshire. Do you know if this is correct as I don't seem to be able to prove it.

Thomas Paxford bachelor married Martha Low spinster at Stonesfield on 4/10/1809, both of the parish. I can't see the baptism of any of their children in Stonesfield at the moment.

It looks like Thomas jnr. married Hannah Eaden in Stonesfield on 10/5/1830, their first child was Mary Ann baptised on 27/3/1831

Hi, I'm a descendant of Henry Moss and his second wife Rachel. Henry was born in Stonesfield in 1839. He was married twice and had at least 10 children between 1859-1893. His first wife was called Sarah Davis.
If you have any information.. as to why he and Sarah Davis's entire family (parents George and Jane, siblings William, George and Elizabeth) moved from Stonesfield to Wednesbury near Wolverhampton. What happened to Sarah after that... did she die? Also why were Henry and Sarah in Sheffield for the 1871 census? Also what was the maiden name of the second wife Rachel, whom he married in 1878? It isn't indexed, sadly.

I guess they travelled to the mining / foundry areas to get work?
I have taken a bit of a leap with the Thomas Moss b1737 and Sarah Carter being the same as the Thomas and Sarah shown as parents of Timothy Moss b1779 - but their first child was baptised in Stonesfeild in 1771 - tieing in with a marriage in 1769... but not hard evidence.

I am also a Paxford Descendant, My Grandmother was Nellie Paxford. My Paxfords were all born around Witney, Idbury, Brize Norton, Preston on Stour and Wednesbury. I understand that all the Paxfords originated from these areas in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. My Grandmother believed that the Paxford name originated from the Cotswold village of Paxford, Gloucestershire. The Paxfords were mainly Agricultural Labourers. Many of the Paxfords seemed to move from the area as a need for Agricultural labour died out or because of family circumstances. I am trying to trace Paxfords from outside this area and why they moved. I have also traced the my Paxford line directly back to Thomas Paxford, living in Witney in 1620. Thanks Jaqui Barron

I am related to Mary Ann Paxford - born 1854 Stonesfield , she is my Great,Great Grandmother, her daughter was Annie Smith , my Grandmother .She married my GG Grandfather Francis G. Smith in 1874 , I believe in Stonesfield or Woodstock. I think her parents were Sarah and Henry Paxford. I believe that there is a Roma connection to my family and that it came from the Smiths - anyone know if the Paxfords were Roma.

Should also add that Henry Paxford married Sarah Moss whose parents were John Moss b 1812 and I think Elizabeth Barker ( not sure of her birth) married in 1832. I think this was in the Stonesfield area.John Moss' parents were Timothy Moss b 1781 -d 1858 and Harriot Moss b 1778

Hi Penquinjay -So exciting to find a relative ! I think I have this correct . Your G Grandfather was Francis G Smith b. 1850 his wife Mary Ann Paxford b 1854. Your Grandfather was their son also a Francis G Smith b1891. My Grandmother - his oldest sister was Annie Louisa b 1875 . My father ,Annie Louisa's son always said that the Smiths had Gypsy ancestors . My Dad , Grandma and all his brothers and sisters certainly looked non Anglo , so I've always hoped this is true ! Do you have any information about the Smiths / Paxfords ? I know they lived until about 1870 in the Stonesfield / Woodstock area , Oxfordshire . After that they were in the Birmingham area. I have been working on my Family tree on and off for a while , so I appreciate any information you have . Many Thanks
