Hello,
I am looking for the ship name in which Charles Nicolai Frederick arrived on in 1851, in Melbourne. He would of been 21 years of age. I know this is scarce informatoion but it is all I have.
Cheers,
Matt

I've had a quick look in some online indexes, but I can't find him. Most of the indexes start in 1852 - the lists for previous to that are in the NSW archives, but he doesn't appear to be in those either. Mind you, most of the immigrants in these lists are from Britain. I presume from your bloke's name that he wasn't English?
I'm not sure how to find non-British immigration, but I'll see what I can do.
Just a question - are you sure the arrival was Melbourne? It's just that a lot of German people arrived in S.A. and traveled overland to Melbourne.
HTH,
Kez :)

Hello Kez,
Yes you would be right in the SA question, I am trying to find a link to the Ulbrich names I have found there. It seems that the family is dispersed somewhere along the voyage out, and I am trying to connect them but to no good end.
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Jenn,
Someone told me a few months ago that this family might be Nicola's father, mother and sister but I am at a loss to connect them. But I really think this is a connection of some sort.
Cheers,
matt

Is this the same Nicola who married Margaret Ferguson 1855 (reg 2468)?
An 1855 marriage certificate is after civil registration began in Victoria, you will get the birthplaces of the bridal pair, both parents (including mother's maiden name) of the bride and groom and father's occupation.
A certificate can be downloaded from the BDM web site ($A17.50)

Hi Guys,
I have received some good information.
Nicolai's father was called Johann Frederich Ulbrich.
It seems a Johann Frederich Ulbrich(t) came too South Australia in 1844 on board the George Washington.
It seems he was traveling with his wife and two daughters. I am wondering if I could find out if Johann's wife's name is Anna Caroline Sophia Collenborg than I might have an Australian arrival for Nicolai's parents. This arrival is six years before Nicolai arrived in Maelbourne however during this time Nicolai was in the German Army.
Cheers,
Matt

now I don't know wether or not you have see it but on the National Archives Site here is a naturalism certificate for nicolai charles fredrick ULBRICK it does not a have a copy attached but it is open and you can request digitalized copy be added takes about 4 to 6 weeks you can order a copy and cost $25 it may or may not say the ship he came on etc but it is worth a go I feel
regards Jenn

Just to let you know, I have ordered two digitised copies of naturalization certificates from Recordsearch in the past, one from 1879 and one from 1914, and both of them included the ship of arrival.
So it's definitely worth doing!

hello there Kez
thats worth knowing I know that the Western Aus have the ship of arrival on but think that South Australia might not have it so was not sure of victoria
so the naturalization of Nicholai could answer Matts questions
I could not turn up a death in SA or Vic for his parents though
regards jenn

jenn,
One of the naturalization certificates i have (the 1879) one is for South Australia.
