Title: Family tree makers
Post by: brigcs on Thursday 26 October 06 13:08 BST (UK)
Hi,

Can anyone point me in the direction of a family tree maker for the computer. I don't want anything complicated just something that will allow me to make trees and put on all the siblings. I have a line that is becoming rather complex. I would love to sit down and put all my confusion in some order!

Many thanks

Brigcs

There are many available, most have their favorites...

If you just need to get your tree in order you can have downloads free

The PAF (Personal Ancestral File) one from the familysearch.org site does most things, is free, and is not complicated.  You can upload your tree from Genes to it.

There is also a 'Legacy' one free, google for info.

Depends on what you want it to do, other than collate your info.

I would love to know of a simple but good programme also as i now have 3000 rellys on Genes Reunited and it gets more complicated with each hot match
But well worth the few quid per year to join that

Thanks Cas

I'll Google away now. I just tried but came up with Family Tree Maker (well that was what I'd asked for!!) but I just need something simpler.

Best wishes

I use Legacy Family Tree (the free version) and it's worked out well for me.
There are far more ways to add information than I can possibly imagine how to use, but setting up people, defining marriages (multiples too) and siblings etc is really easy.
You can also create different views and web pages in different ways, plus include photographs, documents etc.
It's worth a look.

All family tree softaware does that and more.  The main differences are the graphics and the types and styles of charts and reports they can generate.

I would like to know what software you regard as simpler than PAF or FTM when you finally make your choice.  Families are complicated, I don't think a piece of software will make them simpler.
