Hi
it always amazes me how we look in families, some families have striking similarities - whereas others look nothing alike.
I look very much like a mixture of my parents, whereas my eldest daughter looks like me and my youngest daughter looks like her maternal grandmother. neither of my girls seem to have the look of the paternal side of the family.
I look at one cousin and think how much like our great grandmother she looks.
Who do you look like in different generations of your family?

I llok a bit like both my parents and as a child like my mother grandfather. My sister looks like my mums mum and my nephew looks strikingly like my father as a boy

My parents say I look like my paternal grandmother, although I can't see it somehow.
I was recently sent a photo of my great great grandparents and what amazed me was the fact that one strand of the family were all identical to this man.
If I see someone now who looks like that I ask if they are a 'Bloggs' and invariably they are!

As a child I went with my dad to collect his wages. One of his workmates called out, "She's definitely yours, there's no denying that one!".
So, I look like my dad, apparently.... ;D

I don't look like anyone! In fact so much so that when I was a teenager I convinced myself I was adopted! My sister and I look nothing like each other and she's a veggie non drinker while I.......... am not! ;) So we don't even have that in common. Totally different personalities as well as looks, she takes after my mum. Me - who knows?!!
-
I don't look like anyone either!!! As you can see had blonde hair til i was about 10 and then it went brown, nothing like my parents or brother or grandparents from the photos i have!!

Remind you of anyone? This is my maternal grandfather!

Well, if I looked like my Grandma Emma Louisa I would be very pleased - but I don't though one of my 3 daughters does ::) ::)
-
Gotta get in on this!
I just love talking about me!!Anyhow, spitting image of Dad now,was Mum's side when younger.Dark complected, eye's,hair.
Mum's side,is still traceable,even in very distant rellie's.
Dad's,just the opposite, sibling's are a mixture of both side's,some 'Gypsie's',some ever so English!
Personalitie's to match of course.
By Golly,I enjoyed that!!
Goggy. ;) ;D

I am a mixture of my parents.........Mum's blonde hair and blue eyes, with Dad's nose, cheeks and chin ;D It has been said that there are similarities between me and my maternal grandmother (Berlin Bob pointed that out in an old thread some time ago!!!).
My cousin and my Dad are the image of each other and both of them look very much like my Great Uncle John Frederick Jones who was killed in WW1 age 23. I have a photo of him at home and every time I walk past it I see Dad and Nick.
-
I look like my mum but I am the total opposite in personality. My dad and I are more alike in that respect. I have changed though when I was little I looked like dad. Only thing is, I have blonde hair and my family all have dark hair.
I can't even say I am the milkman's, my dad was the milkman when I was born.....lol

AWWW Geez Annie! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ .

I expected my children would look at least a little like each other, but they are all quite different, and it is fascinating to try and work out where some of the characteristics come from.
My OH looks nothing like his mother, but our eldest son does, and so does one of his cousins. He has dark brown hair and eyes and she has red hair and blue eyes, but as well as looking like their grandmother they are similar in lots of other ways .. for example similar build and the same long slim hands, both are musical and both have the same eyerolling "Oh Mum!" expression.
Most people think our youngest son takes after my side, but I think he is more of a mixture, and there's no argument about whom my daughter takes after - except for the beard, of course :)

Hi
I look a lot like my mum, who is very much like her paternal grandmother (my g-grandmother) noticable in the eyes and shape of face.
But I do have my paternal grandmother's mouth and my paternal grandfather's teeth, and quite annoyingly my maternal grandfather's thick eyebrows which for a girl is not good! :-\

Well Kevwood, I would say you look like a little angel. But you did say you'd changed!
;D
Don't know if I'm doing this right - if I have then this is what I look like. If not you'll see a load of gobbledegook (Perhaps that IS what I look like!)
Yippee! It works!

Yeah Annie ....... thought I'd post his image just as an 'aide de memoire' for those ladies who are swoonin'
I have a signed photo posted to my brother of Errol Flynn
I used to collect film stars photos

My mum recently found some old photos and two of them were of my cousin about 2 years old and one of my brother about 2 years old, therefore about 5 years between the pics being taken. Both on the beach in the sea, and without my mum telling me, I wouldn't have been able to tell them apart.
They don't look alike now, but they certainly did then. Funny thing is their mums were twin sisters!

I look just like my dad, but a couple years ago my mom gave me a pic of her mom when she was little and we looked exactly a like at that age, so I came to the conclusion that my parents were related. And my dad always said we were McCluskys through and through and then at my uncle's funeral the other side was there (Connollys) and boy, we all looked a like.
My son is a true mix of my husband and I but my daughter I really think looks like one of my brothers and a niece, who all look like my great-grandmother, the smallest girl in the picture on the right of my profile. (I'm sure you can't really see it.) Funniest thing: my brother is an identical twin, but my daughter and niece (who belongs to the other twin) look more alike.
About ten years ago my sister-in-law gave me a picture of her 3-year-old daughter and me in their pool and you would swear she was a mini-me.
Strong genes I guess.

How nice

I'm the spitting image of my Mum, although this wasn't the case when I was younger. I had very straight hair which has now started to go curly like my Mums, I find this quite bizarre :o
-
Per my parents I look like my paternal great grandfather. I supposedly have his mannerisms too .... not sure if that is good or bad though.

Up till I was about 5, I was the image of my mother at the same age - then I looked like my maternal grandmother. Now, I don't seem to look like any of them!
I have my fathers height, my mother's build, my aunts eyes (even down to the poor sight in the left eye!!).
I don't think I look like my great great gran (see profile picture)

This is a photo of me taken in 1948, and the other is my mother taken in 1931. I hope they come out OK.
-
I think I'm beginning to look like my mother ... and my oldest daughter is starting to look like me !!
But how about these two ? One is my grandmother, c.1885, the other is her daughter, my mother, c. 1912 ... I think the resemblance is quite startling.

We'll have to call Meldrew "Your Grace" in future!

But does Meldrew speak fluent Welsh (as well as four or five other languages)?
-
When you've seen Gran Harriet you've seen my mum, when you've seen my mum, you've seen me...the only difference is my hair is not that dark raven of my gran but a lighter shade, and I have ears from the other side of the family, big ears, but FLAT ears.
All the boys on that side had ears like radar dishes, and they passed it on. Gran Sarah once accused my mother of strapping my ears down, which she didn't. After seeing the picture of Great Gran Emily, I know where I got them from all right. ;)
-
Me - I think I am just me -although an old photo of my gg-grandmother Coles shows that I have her hands - extremely badly distorted with arthritis. That was most interesting to see.
I always thought that my children took after their father's side of the family, but now my daughter is grown up she does look a little like me in features although not colouring. She has olive skin and dark hair - I'm fair and mousey!
Have a photo of my children as tiny tots with thier paternal grandparents and a young cousin. People who see the photo usually say that the brother and sister are the two children on the left - but they are wrong. The little boy and the little dark haired girl are my two......dee
-
My mum always reckons I look like my dad.......... but my mum as youngster I can see me and my daughter ................. but my ex inlaws always reckon my daughter looks like their side .........
We must all have features related that spark recognition in various parts of the family :-\

I favour my paternal side, I bear no resemblance to my maternal side. .My eldest son looks like me but has his fathers temperment, the younger looks like his father but has my temperment ::)
-
Pat
wow I forgot about temprement!! good point !
Mine is (according to my mum) my great aunts on my dads side ( fiesty, say it as it is personality ) and my daughter definately has her dads short fuse and stressy ways.. oh I so look forward to the teen years ahead of me ;D
Cal ;D
-
I have to say that I have always been closer to my younger son (still am) than my elder, I think its because we are the same temperment ???
-
I am one of 7 children, 4 of us are dead ringers for my dad, the other 3 are like mum. We have one set of twins in this - one like mum and the other like dad - how fair is that! My daughter has her dads colouring but looks like me, my son and his dad are klones!
-
I look like my mother, and she looks like her mother, so naturally that means that I look like my grandmother. I look so much like my mother that once a complete stranger stopped me in the street to ask me how my mother was!
My youngest son looks more like his father, my daughter is the spitting image of her great grandmother and my eldest son looks rather like my father, although he is much taller and slimmer.
My husband looks like his father to a point, but he walks exactly like his father, from the back you couldn't tell them apart.
Also my eldest son looks almost exactly like my cousins youngest son.

Three of my five children look like me. So much so that in pubs when they got older people asked them if they were related to me. I look like my dad and he was like his mother and maternal grandmother.
My youngest son who is like me could be interchangeable with my dad when he was young. He once saw an old photo of my dad and said 'I thought you said I looked like him he looks really old fashioned and boring'. The photo was taken in the fifties and obviously the dress style was different then. So with the gift of the computer I chopped off dad's clothes and just left his face. I framed it. Low and behold when my son saw it standing on the window sill he said ' I don't remember you taking that photo of me where was it?' He was stunned when I said it was my dad.

That all depends which side of the world you are on!!
Everyone in Australia (where I live and where my Mum's family is), thinks I'm just like my Mum.
Everyone in Scotland (where Dad is from), thinks I'm the image of my Dad!!
I can see bits of both sides.

I've been told i look like my mum a Baxendale through and through.
I catch myself saying things and thinking "gawd! i even sound like her " I look at my brother and think we could be twins, he's 11 years younger than me..................wishful thinking!
I do get great pleasure telling my daughters...."you're just like your Nan" ;)
The Baxendales live on!

Hi,
I look like the Irish side of the family, the Flanagans. I am the image of my Mother and she hers, likewise one of my daughters is very like me. The only difference is that I have mucky brown hair (blond as a child) and my mother et al were all very dark haired. We recently unearthed a photo taken approx 1878 of my Great Great Grandfather Matthew Flanagan he has his daughter Gertrude sat upon his knee, a child with fair locks and that child absolutely could have been me.
Hugs,
Cindy xx

I look like my dad and my eldest sister looks like his twin sister...my 2 younger sisters look like my mum.
Only one of my four kids looks like me, another son looks very like my youngest sister and the other two look like my husband's mother. Quite a mix.
