Does anyone have the Parish records for Stepney that would show the birth/christening of MARY ANN DURELL born in 1849.
Her parents should be MARY BECRAFT and ABBOTT(ABEL) DURELL
I am also looking for her brother ABBOTT born c.1850
Many thanks

Re Mary born 1849 she should be on 1851 census sooooooooo frustrating.

Hi,
If this is the family in 1861 from your other thread here,
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,48512.msg918076.html#msg918076
the children have the birthplace as Bethnal Green, I have found these births which may fit,
Mary Ann Clara DURRELL Sep Q 1847 Bethnal Green v.2 p.18
Habbit DURRELL Dec Q 1849 Bethnal Green v.2 p.24
If Abbot/Abel didn't marry Mary Becraft until 1853 was he married before?
Regards
Daisy

Oh well done - this gives me another chain of thought now.
So pleased that someone could find Mary Ann and Abbott in Bethnall Green. I have tried so many contacts to find them.
I am waiting for the marriage certificate for Abel(Abbott) and Mary Becraft to arrive. If I can get the birth certs for Mary Ann and Habbitt (Abbott) I will be able to check the parents as well.
Thank you all once again

Just in case a anyone is interested I have now got the certificate for ABEL DURRELL and MARY ANNE BECRAFT - 16 Feb 1853. Abel (Abbott) living at 10 Cottage Street and Mary at 5 Wall Street which I presume was in Poplar as that is where they were married. Abel's father is Richard Durrell , a weaver.
So if anyone has time to look on the 1841 for either family I would be most grateful

I think I have found the family in 1851.........what does anyone else think?
HO 107/1540 folio 38 page 68.......the writing is appalling- and Ancestry have them transcribed as DURDEL.Dad is down as Caleb !!!
They are at 81 Old Ford Road Bethnal Green.
Abel Durell head 29 b Bethnal Green- I think his profession is on the line above, but I'm blowed if I can read it...........something man(sorry :-[)
Mary wife 27 b Mile End
Mary dau 4 b Mile End
Abel son 11 mths b Mile End
and two lodgers Louisa Sherwin mar 44 silk weaver b Mile End
Sarah Shepherd unm 28 silk weaver b Bethnal Green
The writing is awful so some of the names above may be different ;D
Suggestions as to the validity of all this gratefully received .

Looking at this it all seems to fit except for the age of Habbit who should be 2 if he was born (as per birth certficate) in 1849.
I'm wondering if Habbit could have died before the census and Abel is another child born in 1851 who we haven't found yet ..........................

Hi,
From your post here,
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,48512.msg972582.html#msg972582
Habbit/Abel was born Sep 1849 that would make him 18 months old in Mar 1851, as Carol says, it's very hard to read :P but maybe it shows Abel as 17mon :-\ I really can't make it out.
I think the occupation is ???nce Bumboat Man see here,
http://rmhh.co.uk/occup/b2.html
Ooh Googling "bumboat man" I found amongst many explanations, this quote, "I am a licenced bumboat-man." here,
http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/html_sessions/T18170416.html
so I think the first word is Licence ;D
It's great to learn something new every day :)

Thanks Daisy
Love the "bumboat man" but water seems to come in quite a lot as he was a stevedore i 1863 when he died and a coal whipper in 1847 which is also connected with the water.

Hi girls
I agree with your licenced bumboat man ;D
Have you noticed how the whole page is 'one out'.
The places of births do not tie in with each person listed- there is a gap at the bottom of the page. So now strongly think that the first person is the bumboat man ie this possible Abel or Abbott Durrell.
And as Sue said he certainly was a man around the water- so the profession looks good too.
I think we've cracked it :P

Well done - all of you.
I feel quite redundant sitting here waiting for you to come up with all the answers!!
I quess my next query is about Richard and Mary Durell who appear to be Abbott/Habbit 's parents or maybe try and find out why Mary and Abel didn't marry until 1853.

Personally................
I think it reads Licenced beer tradesman :o
and if I was you I would stay away from any site that mentioned bumboat! ;D
and the address appears to be
81 OLD FORD ROAD (definitely OLD FORD LANE on the previous page)
ABEL DURRELL 29 LICENCED M BEER TRADEMAN MILE END, MIDDX
MARY " 27 BETHNAL GREEN, "
" " 4 MILE END, "
ABEL " 17 MONTHS " "

Sorry Bryant but looking at the image again, I can't see your Beer Trades man.
All I can see is Daisy's Bumboat :P

-
I can't see it but could it say licenced beer seller man?
'cos he is a beer seller on Eliza's birth cert (1853) and a Victualler on the wedding cert (also 1853)
Sue
-
Carol,
I take my hat off to you for finding the 1851 census. WELL DONE! :)
-
Don't let your head get cold Irret ;D ;D ;D
I did it by chosing a 4 year old Mary with a mum called Mary.....and low and behold there was one called Durdell (Well nearly right Ancestry!!!)
They are just round the corner from where the kids were born(Sue sent me both their birth certs)
So even though we disagree over dads job(bumboat or beer seller)I still think it's more than likely them :P
Carol
PS If only our ancestors were contactable to ask why they didn't marry till after having had many kids- wouldn't that make this hobby easy?
-
Carol,
I have one marriage after their first two children were born and another eight years after their three children were born. I go to bed wishing they would come to me in my sleep and give me all the anwsers., and I still can't find William Walker born 1844 Glasgow in 1871 in England or Scotland widowed and it is driving me crazzzzzzzzzzy. ??? ??? ???
-
Iv'e had another look at the 1851 disc............ :)
And I think it is Licenced beer an food man
the father is ABEL
the son is ABOTT
although they look the same......their is definitely two diagonal lines at the end of the son's name.................
And the next address to them going down the page is...........2 CRANBROOK STREET
mind you if I was looking at it for the first time and was asked what the names were not knowing anything about the family..............would I have a clue
irret.................tell us more about Willy Walker
