Title: Sheffield Parish Church
Post by: carolshillington on Monday 23 October 06 14:17 BST (UK)
I have a marriage cert. from 1844 which I am (still) having problems reading the names on. The church is given as Sheffield Parish Church. Can anyone enlighten me as to which church this might be and if it would help me by writing to them and asking if they could check their records?

There are several parish churches in Sheffield, some are now closed or reused as warehouses or pubs.  The main C of E church is the cathedral in the city centre.  Sheffield city library has an archives department and will be able to advise you.  The old city cemetary also has a data base that can be useful if you are researching ancestors in Sheffield.

Hi Carol,

Could you scan and attach to a posting those parts of the certificate that are proving  difficult to read.   There are some very clever Rootschatters who will be able to help you. (They've helped me with old certs.)
