I'd appreciate a look-up for Kingston Deverill of any Snelgroves. I know John Snelgrove was born there in 1800, joined the army and moved away, but were any of his relatives still there?
-
sorry there r no Snelgroves or anything similar in Kingston Deverill in 1851 census

Just noticed while doing another lookup there are stacks of them in Heytesbury...won't post until I hear from you, as I might be wasting my time since they are not in Kingston Deverill... none of these were born K D either...Kris

Thanks for your efforts. I've had a lot of info on Wiltshire Snelgroves, but still trying to pin down William Snelgrove who was born 1760 in Hill Deverill, and his wife Hannah Bridle. If you come across these, do let me know.

My ancestors came to Northumberland County, Ontario Canada in the 1850's from Deverill-Longbridge, Wiltshire. Stephen Snelgrove born about 1790 married Annie? (born about 1791 Heytesbury, Wiltshire) both died in Ontario. Stephen had a brother Edward Snelgrove (born 1787) & an Aunt Sarah Snelgrove (born 1754). According to family documents both are buried in Longbridge. Stephen & Ann's children were Andrew(1817), George(1820), Sarah Anne(1827 died as a baby), Sarah (1828 died at about 4 yrs), John Stephen (1830) and William (1832). I have been able to find the christening records for the children. John Stephen Snelgrove (my gg-grandfather) is shown living with his parents in Longbridge according to the 1851 census. At some point, before coming to Canada he married Ann Doughty. Stephen & Ann and John & Ann came to Canada and I have detailed information thereafter. I am wondering if anyone else has any information on this family or has come across their names. I would love to know who Ann Doughty's parents may have been, what Stephen's wife's maiden name etc. and what happened to brothers, George & William. Thank you in advance...Cindy

Thank you so much for all that. :-*

Thank you so much Borneo for your information!! You have been a great help.
Sarah Snelgrove (86 yrs) must be Stephen's, Aunt Sarah (1754-1844) that is mentioned in the family papers & pictures and I am sure that the Sand St. Snelgroves are my family as the ages seem very close to the baptism information I have of Stephen & Ann's children. I am not sure who Ann Snelgrove (age 55) (might be wife of Stephen's brother, Edward (1787-1835)) who is living with George and I am presuming eldest son, Edward Jr probably would be married and living elsewhere at that time.
I know for sure that John's wife Ann's maiden name was Doughty...my grandfather was named Ellis Doughty Snelgrove after her and that a William Doughty penned what information we have on the Snelgrove family in Longbridge. Maybe John Stephen Snelgrove was her second husband. She died here in Ontario Dec 11, 1893 and the inscription on her tombstone states that she was 67 yrs 7 mos).
I have also been told that there was a Mrs. Valentine Crouch (sp?) living with them before they came to Canada. Could she have been Ann's (Stephen's wife) mother?
Thank you again for all your help & if anyone else is interested in this particular family after they came to Canada, I would be happy to share any information I have. Cindy

Alli,
THANK YOU!!! Alli & I Borneo, I can not express enough how much I appreciate all the help. I think that you have found them & it does help a great deal.
My Stephen & Edward's parents are probably Edward & Sarah then. Son Stephen married Ann ? & son Edward married Annie Ball (maybe). According to my family records this Edward died about 1835 and is buried there.
Thanks again, Cindy

As for this marriage:
Marriages Jun qtr 1857 ?
Barter, Annie Warminster (5a 287)
Snelgrove, John Stephen Warminster (5a 287)
I would seriously think of obtaining this marriage cert.
If this is the right one, it will give an indictation of when they sailed?
If this is her 2nd marriage, her fathers name will be under her maiden name!?
Just a thought
Brian
