Title: Great Grandfather Niven still evading capture..
Post by: Frink on Monday 16 October 06 14:34 BST (UK)
Hi folks

My great grandfather William Niven born between 1823-28 to parents William Niven and Isabella McIntyre is still eluding me. The information comes from William's MC and his DC. William's daughter was the informant on his DC. On the 51-61 Census' it states he was born in Lanark.

I have searched  for (Niven/Nivin/McNiven/MacNiven/Nevin): -

BC William Niven (1820-35)
BC William McIntyre (1820-35)
BC's of other siblings with parents William Niven & Isabella McIntyre
MC William Niven & Isabella McIntyre
DC Isabella Niven (nee McIntyre)
DC Isabella McIntyre
DC William Niven (Snr)
Every 1841 Census looking for any Niven that's a Coachman.

William Snr was a Coachman's Contractors so have checked the 1827 Business directory.  William Jnr was married in Dunoon so have also checked out the Niven's in that area . I know there was a Coachmans' hostlery/inn in Dunoon but do not know any more about it.

I realise that the wrong names could be on the DC but the naming of his children would suggest otherwise. I have also checked out William Niven/Isabella Thomson  plus William Niven/Isabella Fotheringham.

Have I exhausted all avenues or is there something else I could explore?

kind regards
Seonaig
