Hi Everyone
Does anyone have access to burials at Beckett Street Cemetery in Leeds?
If so, could someone please help me try and find out whether two of my ancestors were buried there, and when?
They are John Parkinson Stott, died 1904 aged approximately 41 years old and Theresa Stott (John's wife) who died circa 1941 aged approximately 76 years. Just out of interest, Theresa occassionally layed out the bodies for the local funeral director, for burial in the same cemetery. She lived on Beckett Street where she looked after her late husband's Leather Grinding shop.
I hope someone can help.
Sally.

Yes they're there...it only gives the year of burial BUT the dates don't match for John -
1909 John Parkinson STOTT Beckett St Cemetery, Leeds
1941 Teresa STOTT Beckett St Cemetery, Leeds
HTH anyway

Hi Claire
Thank you so much for looking :) I had been told that John Parkinson Stott might have been buried in 1909 (I wasn't sure if the basic search I did for him on the death index was right), so I'm sure what you've found is the one. I've never come across another JPS.
Many thanks again.

Hi
I'm going to Leeds Library next week to look up some of my ancestors in Beckett St Cemetery,
I'd be happy to include your Stotts in my search and let you know what other details exist in the grave books
Cheers Sue.

Hi Sue
That would be very much appreciated, but don't go to too much trouble. If they have information on what grave numbers or what section they're in, that would be fantastic, as I'm hoping that when I make my next trip over (from Australia) to visit my family, I'll be able to look up some of my ancestors too.
Many thanks.

Where are I able to obtain photo's or MI of cemetery - can anyone tell me?

Hi Kiwi
Yes, I did find my ancestors graves at the Beckett Street Cemetery. I found the burial, grave and map details at the history centre in the Leeds City Library, when I was in England. The staff there were really helpful, and I found all the information I needed within 10 minutes. To start your search with the documents they have, you need to know the persons full name, and the year they died (preferably the quarter) too.
Unfortunately I don't know where you can get photos, however, if you can get to a Latter-Day Saints Church family history centre, you can order in the transcripts of the MIs of Beckett Street, for burials from 1845-1997. I did also post a message on here, asking if anyone could check the MIs for me for Beckett Street. The grave I was looking for was not on it because when I went to the grave, my ancestors headstone was almost buried. I only found it as I was looking for it. The graveyard was in a real mess with broken headstones everywhere. We had to dig overgrowth off our ancestors graves. Although there were 6 people buried in the two graves, there was only one headstone, so we think the other parts of the headstone where moved or broken.
Anyway, I hope this helps in your search.
Sally.
