Hello. I've just got the 1911 census for William Flynn, my
great grandfather, the townland is Ballyduff ?East. Could someone give me some information such as the nearest Catholic Church, and is there a map that shows the exact whereabouts ?
Thank you for any help

As far as I'm aware Ballyduff is in North Kerry so it may be worth also trying the Kerry section with this enquiry.
All the best

Hello Scatty. No it's definitely Offaly, I've attached the 1911 census. It's a dodgy photo as I had to photograph the microfilm.
Thank you, Barbara

Hi Barbara,
Ballyduff is a small (375 acres) townland near Daingean (was called Philipstown). I tried to find my map of Offaly townlands but no joy yet.....will send you a copy when I find it! My grandparents came from close by but I have not tracked them down yet.
If you search for Ballyduff Offaly on google there are plenty of references.

Thank you Joe, I would be grateful. I have googled it but got football and B&B's, I wanted the nearest church.
The name Hickey is familiar to me, were they in Daingean?

Hi Barbara,
Haven't found the map yet :(
I have three likely suspects for my Grandfather Hickey....all in the area.

My Sheerin's lived on Main St Daingean and Rathfeston, the Flynns are in Geashill, Croghan and Killaderry. I just know the name and can't place it.

[Did you ever find the Parish Church of Ballyduff, Offaly? I am now in the same situation and I am also struggling.

Hello. Ballyduff is in the Geashill townland so I wrote to a lovely priest Fr John Stapleton office@killeigh.com but that was Killeigh. I got the previous generation to ones I was looking for in Ballyduff
This website is good
http://www.catholicireland.net/parishes/findchurch.php
I wrote to them but got no information.
These places are all close together and it gets confusing
Best wishes

Thanks for replying so quickly. I am wanting to look at the parish records for my great x 3 Grandfather Patrick Fitzpatrick, who was born in Ballyduff, near Roscrea in 1828. He joined the British Army in 1848 and gave this info at the time. At the end of his service he moved to Leeds and settled. I also live in Leeds and want to make the trip over to the National Library in Dublin to search the Parish records to hopfully find out more, but have found it really difficult to establish the Parish so that I could check that they are available before flying over. I don't suppose you ever found out that info did you? Once I do make the trip I'll also like to see Ballyduff as well. The strange thing is, my Grandmother was born in Blackrock, Co Dublin in 1904 and moved back to Leeds a few years later.
Regards

Geashill would be the nearest Catholic cemetery and while thre are Flynn headstones there, none state Ballyduff as an address. Only one mention of a William Flynn
John Flynn (Ballantougher) 2/9/1966 (87)
Caroline (w) 21/4/1979
his brother, William 8/5/1963 (82)

Jack

Hello Jack. John and William Flynn are my great uncles, my grandmother Bridget Sheerin's (nee Flynn), brothers.
This is so interesting to me!
John and Caroline died in Ballintogher, William died in Gurteenkeel.
Is the cemetery just called 'Geashill Cemetery'?
Are the cemetery records anywhere?
Are any photographs available?
Any little bits of information about the other Flynns would be so much appreciated!
Thank you very much for answering

I took photo's of all the Flynn headstones in Geashill cemetery, (I'll get the name of the church) and send them on.
If you could let me have you e-mail address I'll send them there.
Let me have you address at
