I am trying to find out what happened to the orphaned children of Thomas Allan who owned the Springbank iron foundry at Garscube Road in Milton/Maryhill.
Known children by Thomas' first wife, Elisabeth Campbell, were:
Jane Laird Allan b1868 at Garscube Cottage, Maryhill; and
Elly Marie Allan b1870 at Milton.
Elisabeth Campbell died in 1870 and Thomas later married Isabella Forbes. Known child of Thomas Allan & Isabella Forbes was:
Isa Forbes Allan b1873 at 'The House', Springbank Iron Works, Milton.
I believe that Thomas' wife, Isabella Forbes, died in Sept 1884 in Argyllshire and that Thomas Allan died in Nov 1884 at Kelvinside.
This would have left at least 3 (presumably wealthy) children. What became of them?
I would be grateful for any assistance with this.

Hi,
In regards to Elisabeth Campbell, do you any more details about her? ie parents, birth date, place?
I have a few Elisabeth Campbells from the Bishopbriggs/Cadder area in my family tree, which isn't far from Maryhill.
Regards,
Cheryl

In 1891 you'll find Janey(23) and Elly(20) boarding in Partick with a Georgiana Stevenson (widow) age 33. THere is one house servant and no one has an occupation. Georgiana is listed as born Kinross....Janey Maryhill and Elly Glasgow. The 1891 census can be veiewed on ScotlandsPeople (646/03 045/03 003).
Best wishes

Thank you very much for this information. I have no idea who Georgina Stevenson might be - yet another mystery........................

Elisabeth Campbell was born 28 May 1848 at Lochwinnoch. Her parents were Robert Campbell & Jane Laird. Unfortunately I do not have their birth dates/locations etc.

Since Georgiana stated a birthplace of Kinross on the later census I'd have to put my money on this being the right couple in 1881:
16 Kew Terrace, Govan, Lanark, Scotland
GROS Reference, Vol 646-2, ED 34A, Pg 8
Wm. STEVENSON, Married, age 40, Male, b. Campsie, Stirling, Scotland, Head, Solicitor and Member Of Faculty Og Procurators
Georgiana STEVENSON, Married, age 23, Female, b.Kinross, Kinross, Scotland, Wife
Elizabeth DALLAS, Unmarried, age 28, Female, b. Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland, Cook Domestic Servant
Jessie MC MURTRIE Unmarried, age 26, Female, b.Dumfermline, Fife, Scotland, Housemaid Domestic Servant

Yes, Jean, that looks good. Wonder what the maiden surname was, maybe related to the girls, Janey and Elly, and aunt, perhaps?

Found the marriage on SP, William Stevenson married Georgi*na Barnet at Kinross in 1879, Georgiana was born in Kinross 8th Mar 1858 to parents George Barnet and Elizabeth Guthrie.
Now is there any relationship?

William Stevenson born 1841 dies 1884 aged 44 at Partick in Glasgow, that is where Georgiana was in 1891 census. Could be correct?
The funny thing is, if he was a Solicitor you think he would have had a will, searched on SP, and none.
