Hi Nessy
I had a look on IGI and found the family . It looked as though they were the only McCall family in the village at that time.
Parents
Samuel McCall
& Margaret Seaton
JANET MCCALL -
Christening: 30 JUL 1837 Stair, Ayr, Scotland
JEAN GIBB MCCALL -
Christening: 13 OCT 1831 Stair, Ayr, Scotland
MARGARET MCCALL
Christening: 17 DEC 1829 Stair, Ayr, Scotland
MARGARET MCCALL
Christening: 28 OCT 1833 Stair, Ayr, Scotland
AGNES CLARK MCCALL
Christening: 18 OCT 1835 Stair, Ayr, Scotland
I don't think they were living in the village of Stair either. There were suggestions from a submission that they were actually in the village of Trabboch which is in Stair parish.
Website for Stair Village church - http://www.stairchurch.homestead.com/HOME.html
Trabboch doesn't exist now with the mines having closed and almost all local work opportunities gone. It was no more than a row of miners cottages and a wee school.
I looked for Memorial Inscriptions in the Stair Church site and there was only one which did not match your family.
Look at some of the other Ayrshire sites as there are quite a few pictures of the area.

Thanks for that Russell I shall have a look at the Stairchurch site. I see you live in Kilbarchan, a lovely village, I used to visit there when I came over to Scotland on holiday.
i used to visit the antique shop there.
Thanks again

Hi Nessy
My son-in-law's father was brought up in Trabboch and is proud of the community spirit they had which, of course was destroyed when the mines were closed and only the elderly and infirm were left in a ghost town.
I wonder which of the antique shops you visited in Kilbarchan?
We're incomers to the village having only lived here for 40 years.
The local family history group I run has members whose families can be traced back in the village 250 years. Now that's what I'd call local. It does mean you have to be careful what you say since it might affect at least half a dozen familes :)

Nessy,
Samuel was the son of George McCall and Agnes Clark . He was born in Auchinleck Ayrshire in abt 1804. He was a Tailor and married Marion Seaton on 7 aug 1829 at Sorn. George McCall was in Catrine Sorn Ayrshire in the 1841 census and was an agricultural labourer and was born c 1765-1769 Agnes Clark was born c 1775-1779 (both in Ayrshire.) They died before 1851 and so did not reach the Civil registration of 1855. One of my distant cousins in Canada is a descendant of this family through a sister of Samuel named Janet, She married James Hamilton my gt gt grandfather's brother. All the best Robbie

Hi all those with McCall ancestors,
I am interest in George McCall, b.10/5/1839, son of Samuel McCall and Marion Seaton.
He married Ann Galloway a farm servant from Cadder on 30/7/1869. She had an illegitimate son, James, four years prior to her marriage to George and I am not sure if George was the father or not. There were no other children born to them after their marriage as far as I know.
James was my g-grandfather and took on the McCall name after his mother married George.
I would very much like to find out more about this family from other descendants around the world. If anyone can give me any info about Ann Galloway and where George worked as a gardener, please pm me. I have photos of James who also became a gardener. He married Christina Ness and had nine children.
Thanks
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine, I think the answer to who James McCall's father may be could be in his middle name
JAMES BLUE GALLOWAY
Birth: 08 JUN 1865 Cadder, Lanark, Scotland
Mother: ANN GALLOWAY
I think that looking for a James Blue from that area and time may reveal the father of James ie James Blue Cheers Robbie

Hi Robbie,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do have James' full names and have been trying to find out about the mysterious "Blue". The closest I have found is a Duncan Blue who was also an agricultural worker in the same area as Ann Galloway lived. I don't live in Scotland so it's difficult for me to get any further info. James birth cert. gives no father, and his marriage cert. list George McCall as his father.
I would be grateful if you could put any McCall descendants that you know of in touch with me, as someone researching this family may have more knowledge..
Regards
Lorraine
