Title: convict in prison

hello everyone

i have just discovered a relative of mine from durham northeast spent some time in prison, i am wondering if someone could tell me how i can find out what he was convicted for and what sentence was past on to him

he is listed in the 1891 census at gillingham prison in kent

peter gradon aged 25

any help would be much appreciated

The Medway Index for Local newspapers has no entries for GRADON (or variants)

Peter GRADON tried at the general gaol delivery Durham 31 Oct 1887 for forgery in two indictments and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude for each indictment but for the sentences to run concurrently.
