My grandfather and beyond came from the Sunderland area. Names, Ralph Harrison 1805, Margaret Sanderson (wife) 1813, sons John 1836 and Ralph 1838 (mariner in merchant service) , my gr grandfather John Thomas Harrison 1872, all from Bishopwearmouth and Monkwearmouth. Gr grandmother Catherine Howe 1874 with parents William Howe and Jane Earl from the Lumley Thicks and surrounding areas. I would love to hear from anyone who may have similar interests.

Further, Ralph Harrison (born 1805) was a Tailor, he died 1838 before his son Ralph was born. Ralph jnr (born 1838) became a mariner in the merchant service. I have no record of his death, I suspect he died at sea as he not included on any census since 1851.

Try Sunderland Central Library (Local History Section). They have the Corder Manuscripts which include details of old Sunderland families.

Bill,
Thank you for your message. Do you know if the information is online? I now live in New Zealand, and obviously cannot visit in person.
Thanks Trish

Hi Trish
I don't think info is online. I live locally and will see if I can find anything.

I looked in the Corder Manuscripts and found several Harrison families but there were also several Ralphs. One family in particular was written about in some detail but most of the dates were in the 1600s and 1700s so I was unable to connect them with your family. Others of course were later.
Perhaps you could e-mail the Local History Section at Sunderland Central Library and ask for photocopies of Harrison pedigrees.

Bill,
Thank you for your assistance. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I did not get the chance to check over the weekend. Much appreciated, I will try your suggestion.

Links like this do not work with the Historical Directories, you have to search from scratch at http://www.historicaldirectories.org/
