I have tried every thing I know to find the names of the 3 daughters of Sir Stanley Gordon Irving KBE GMC & his wife Irene Hazel Maclean MBE. He was born West Ham in 1886 & married at Bath Abbey on 3 June 1920. Any Ideas? Thanks Vesta
-
Hi Vesta,
Does this mean you checked the complete birth index for children named Irving with mother's maiden name Maclean from 1920 on? (If Maclean was her maiden name, of course)
-
No- not the complete index but certainly many hrs of searching--I wonder if they were born abroad. Vesta
-
Do you know their names and birthdates, or do you only know that the couple had 3 daughters?
The complete index is free to search here:
http://content.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=8964&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0
Make sure you have seen every quarter of every year.
You might have to check the overseas birth index: It looks as though he was abroad much:
http://www.burkes-peerage.net/sites/contents/book/scotland/fat/free/irvingofgribton/irvingfamilyportraits.asp
Have you checked Newspapers such as The Times?
-
I have been right through The Times 1921 -1945.
I only know he had 3 daughters, no names or dates, therefore I might be missing something. I have found "possible" daughters but cannot link them to the parents. I cannot get Oxford DNB but I wondered if the father might have an entry & possibly name the daughters.

It is very likely he and his wife left wills which will name their children.

If you search for Irene Hazel Irving you'll pull up the 28th August 1970 entry for her husband's death. His address given as Well Place, Ipsden, Oxford.
The Times searching can be tricky; you have to play about with the names because of the way they phrase things:
The Times, Wednesday, Sep 23, 1959; pg. 1; Issue 54573; col A
On Sep 17, 1959, quietly, in Chelsea, George Ludgate, son of the late Mr and Mrs George Bruce, formerly of Thurso, Scotland, to Marie Louise, daughter of Sir Stanley and Lady Irving of Well Place, Ipsden, Oxon.

Thanks to both of you -- I did not know either of those sites.

I am puzzled, my mother is Marie-louise Bruce, daughter of Sir Stanley. I can let you know anything you need to know. Only spotted this because my daughter is doing world war 2 at school so I told her about her great grandfather and his special important role in the war, then googled his name to show her a picture and this came up. The other post from here from his great grand daughter puzzles me. This must be one of Helens children, but I thought she had two boys. She is my cousin but lives in New zealand. I would love to know who wrote the reply.
Just to let you know Olivia actualy died overboard on a boat going to Uruguay opposite the Canary Islands.
Any thing else you need to know please email me- iwould hate for allthis history to get lost.

Hi - I'm not sure who I'm replying to, but I feel inspired to answer the question about Stanley Irving's daughters. I'm one of his grand-daughters. The daughters were/are Removed Ann (my mother), married Douglas Haig Burnett, then passed away 40 years ago, leaving four children -
Happy to answer any other questions. Happy Christmas and warm wishes, Catherine.

Hello Catherine.
Thank you so much for replying, my apologies for the tardy reply but we only got home last night. My computer tells me we are 2nd cousins twice removed. I got stuck on the descendants of Sir Stanley & gave up. The questions I am struggling with are not really the ones for the open forum, they concern Olivia. I will try & write you a personal reply.
If you are researching your family tree I can certainly help you.
Kind Regards

Hello
I too am not sure if I am replying to anyone or if this is just an open forum LOL.
I am the Great Nephew of Sir Stanley. My Grandfather was Ernest (Sir Stanley’s Brother) my father was called Stanley as well.
I have two older brothers Adrian and Nigel.
I think Catherine if you are reading this that we may have met about 30 years ago at Wellwick House for a big family gathering! I recall I enjoyed meeting some second cousins - could that have been you Louise Robert and Helen. One of he girls told me she was studying shoe 👠 design.
I know they lived near Well House maybe in South Stoke?
I now live close by and would love to make contact.
David Maxwell Trelawny Irving 😊

Hello again
I also have lots of family history including a huge book called The Book of the Irvings. Also various photographs and amazing hand written family letters written in the early 1800’s. These were passed to me by my late father Stanley (Sir Stanley’s nephew) these in turn were passed to him by his father Ernest (Sir Stanley’s Brother).
-
Hello Irving
I wonder if you know why you have Trelawny in your name. Sir Stanley's Mother was Olivia Dolores Olguin. Olivia's parents were Jose Olguin & Zella .Trelawny. Zella was an older sister to my Grandmother.

Sorry, I see you are David.
Was your Dad Stanley W.C T Irving 1908-1990 & Your Mum Jeanne?
I have 4 children for Stanley & Jeane -- Removed Do I need correcting?
As you are on the same line as Catherine you are my 2nd cousin twice removed!
Vesta
-
Hi Vesta
Yes my Dad was Stanley WCT Irving married to Jeanne Lawson Munro and the T in his name was also Trelawny. Of course I know Edward John Trelawny was my 3 greats Grandfather. Also my father had a sister called Zella and one called Ramona.
You are not correct about my fathers children. Removed. Great that we are 2nd cousins twice removed. I do not know where Catherine lives but think she may be near where I am as by chance I have moved to the area where Sir Stanley lived. Where in the world do you live? By the way I seem to remember seeing photograph of Dr Olguin some years ago.

Thanks David for replying. We live on the S Coast.
I will correct my Tree ( not on the web). I cannot find Nigel on any server, was he born abroad or in Scotland?
Now your 3rd G Grandfather & my G.Grandfather was only baptized John, he remained John on everything legal. He adopted Edward for his writing & to annoy his father after he had tried out Philip for a while. Have you read his books?
I do have a very poor picture of Jose taken from an Argentinian newspaper.
I do not know where Catherine lives as she did not answer after her first post.
