Title: Royal Humane Society - G grandfathers award
Post by: Will Marshall on Tuesday 03 October 06 19:27 BST (UK)
Hi everyone
I have in my possesion a scroll presented to my great grandfather Arthur George Hopkins. it was presented to him on the 15th of september 1925 for saving the life of a drowning women on the 12th of august of the same year, off the coast of scarborough. I was wondering if such an action would have made the national papers? If so how would I go about searching them?

any advice would be appreciated.

cheers

Will

Hi Will,

It looks as if the North Yorkshire Records office covers Scarborough - you should be able to find them on an internet search.  It does say that they hold film of local historical newspapers.  I couldn't find an email address for the archive service but this is the library phone number: Tel: 01609 533800 - I'm sure that they will be able to advise you.

There's always the list of regional newspapers' websites in the Yorkshire area:

Can't find it in the Times so I would try the regional newspapers.
