Can anyone tell aproximately when this photo was taken?
ANY ideas about what type of people they were from their clothes?
-
I'm useless at this - but would say 1925 - but will wait for everyone to contradict me!! ;D ;D
As for their status - they look upper middle class - whatever that meant - but everyone dresses up for a photo! ;)

Hi Andy, I would say about the same as Keith (great minds think alike ;D ) - around 1920-25.
Cheers! :)

Same as Prue and Keith with dates and I would say middle class (possibly trade rather than professional) from the house and garden and, secondly, the clothes and posed informality :D

Cheers for all the opinions :)

Hi
The 1920's wre a very relaxed post war era- the formality and dress looks more like Edwardian- 19o1 = 14

I thought,perhaps:
the man and woman on the right were my Gt Gt Grandparents:
William Briggs born 1855+Sarah Briggs born 1845 (45+55 in 1900)
the young man and girl in the middle were their children
The man born between 1879-1882,The girl born 1885 (21-18 and 15 in 1900)
and the man on the left, looks like a brother of he man on the right,I know one lived near him-Joe born 1867 (33 in 1900)
If the photo was taken 1900-1905 I could be right,if its much later,I can't imagine who they are!!

Judging by the fact that the bottom buttons are done up on the waistcoats I would say it is pre 1900, King Edward kept getting fatter and couldn't do his bottom button up so it became customary not to do the bottom button up after about 1900.
-
I've never heard that before!! :) That could really help!
I bet the bloke on the left was glad of that custom, his bottom one is almost popping off!!
When did Edward reign from?1901-???
-
Edward died in May 1910

the Age concern 'Time Capsule' site has many photos of people in decade order. It may help to place the fashion.

Thanks for that,I had a look, but still can't be quite sure! I guess unless you had the money to keep up with fashions, your clothes could be a few years out of date.
If anyone looks at the site, check out the Lady from Saltaire-her baby's hair can't be real,it looks as if someone photoshopped the mums hair onto it!!!
