We have a Piers Edgcumbe here in Nelson, New Zealand, who is, I believe, heir to his brother the current Earl of Mount Edgcumbe who also has local connections. Is this part of the familiy you're looking at?

EXTRA INFORMATION ABOUT THE FAMILY
We are searching for the ancestors/descendents of George EDGECUMBE born 1845 wiltshire married to Annie HUMME.
he moved to NZ with his father Henry born 1817 in Wiltshire, and a few of his younger brothers. One of these i believe to be Francis Henry EDGECUMBE.
Henry EDGECUMBE was born in 1817 married Martha EYLES in 1842. she was born in Melksham, Wiltshire in 1823.
George EDGECUMBE (his son) co-founded the Waikato Times in the early 1880's with another EDGECUMBE who is probably related to the current Earl. (edward Mortimer EDGECUMBE)
We think we have the direct line back to about 1600 but a few of these we are not %100 sure of.
George EDGECUMBE'S son was John Harold EDGECUMBE.
I would really appreciated any information you might have regarding this family or any other Edgecumbes in the area.
kind regards
Christopher Edgecumbe

Thanks so much for this!
I have had a look at the archive site and decided it was a right shame that i used to live there and now i want the records i live in Australia:-) such is life i guess.
;D
i am assuming from you other posts that you have access to the marriage records of this time in NZ.
That has given me a few things to do for the moment so thanks for you help and maybe i might need your expertise a little later on. Thanks again
Christopher Edgecumbe
(and Constance) ;D

Good to know the data was of some use, or interest. The Hamilton Cemeteries, West, East, and Park, are available at http://web.hcc.govt.nz/jsplive/assure32.jsp. Many of the other cemeteries have their records on line too. A new disk is available linking names to a cemetery in NZ. Could save time on searches. We can now match marriage partners up to 1999.
All the best

Dear Constance, I have the EDGECOMBE / EDGCUMBE family in my tree as well. We live in Australia and am researching my mother-in-law's lines.
Top of tree...
{Mary & William arrived in New Plymouth, New Zealand on the "William Bryant" 30 Mar 1841}
William EDGECOMBE born 1810 England, died 7 Jun 1871 New Plymouth, NZ
married Mary HEWLETT born 1802 Portsmouth, England, died 1890 New Plymouth NZ
... lots of descendants etc.
Mary HEWLETT also married John BROWN and this is my mother-in-law's line.
John and Mary BROWN had a daughter Mary Jane BROWN and she married Samuel Gregory HARRIS (also of Plymouth, Devon, England) etc....
This link may be of interest, SCOWN ancestry... as there may be some names you are researching in there.
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~scownancestry/sca.html
And my MIL recently purchased a book (haven't got the title on me) that has history of New Zealand relating to the MOYLE descendants.
Alison in Queensland, Australia.

The family that are the Earls of Mt Edgcumbe spell their name Edgcumbe, not Edgecumbe. The Earl and the fellow who started the newspaper were cousins. See my Edgcumbe Family Tree on ancestry.com Regards Barbara Martha Edgcumbe Stott
