I am seeking information re my 3x Gt Grandfather JOHN MISKELLY and his wife MARY McALPIN.
JOHN was born c.1806 and MARY was born c.1810
Their eldest child was born in NEWTOWNARDS C1832, subsequent children having being born in CARLISLE CUMBERLAND ENGLAND. As far as I know they were not of the Roman Catholic Faith, there children in Cumberland were all Baptised in their local Church of England Parish Church. If someone could point me in the right direction as to where I might begin to look for the Marriage and or Birth of JOHN and MARY I would be most grateful.
Regards

Hi Scotmum,
That list for 1912 is impressive.
In the north of Ireland, like many other places I suppose, when important occasions arise and it is necessary for the population to make their mark or sign their name both the living and many of their dead relatives answer the call and fulfill their public duty.
The Directory of Belfast and Provinvce of Ulster 1852 shows no families by the name of Miskelly living in Newtownards.
Best Wishes, Christopher

Hi !!!,
Better late than never re Miskelly postings !!
As this is the only thread on the Miskelly name, here I am albeit about 2 years late.
I have just started my Family Research
in the last year.
My Great/grandmother was:
MARGARET MISKELLY
Born 1837, County Down, Ireland
Married John CUMMINS 1860, Belfast, Ireland
Parents: OWEN MISKELLY ( occupation Butcher) and AGNES MURRAY
They emmigrated to New Zealand in 1864 on "The Ganges" and on the voyage my grandfather was born.
The only ref. to a OWEN MISKELLY I have found is thanks to a site recommended by "Ticker" on one of his postings.
FREEHOLDERS on PRONI
Owen Miskelly, Ballycloughan, County Down
Landlord: Patrick Savage esq.
Value 40s
Barony of Castlereagh
Date reg. Jan 15 1816, Hillsborough
Names of Lives and Tenure; John Miskelly
I presume this means the property is owned by Patrick Savage and was originally leased by John Miskelly and passed to his son Owen ?????
Any help, or suggestions on where to go from here appreciated.

I wrote this message a while back, and have now discovered that in fact, Lizzie Ann & Robert are my GG grandad and nan, Samuel is my ggg uncle.
I have now discovered that Samuel, James and Lizzie Ann Miskelly are my 2x great uncles and aunt. Robert Miskelly is my Great Grandad. It has been mentioned that his dad was also called Robert Miskelly who was married to 'Lily'. I have no idea as how to find out this info.
I am only just starting to TRY an do my Miskelly family tree, but as my grandad has recently passed away, there are no more of his family living, i'm finding this pretty tough.
If anyone can make any suggestions it would be very much appreciated.
