Hi
Anyone out there know where there might be a list of past Mayors of Northampton or have that information to hand themselves?
Interested in 1930's in particular
Thanks

There is a list of Northampton mayors in the book
'Northampton 1835-1985 Shoe Town, New Town'
by Cynthia Brown.
What name are you hoping to find?

Thanks for that Marilyn
Was hoping to find the Name (John) Edward Allitt sometime in the 1930's possibly 1933/4. Do you have a copy of this book? is it still available?
Margaret

Edward Allitt was mayor in 1933.
I don't know whether the book is still available new. It is published by Phillimore, copywright 1990 Northampton Borough Council,
ISBN 0 85033 767 4

Marilyn,
Would you be kind enough to look in your Shoe Town book index (if it has one) for a William Hollis (Wiliam Griffiths Hollis)? He was a shoe manufacturer in Northampton in the late 19th century. Thanks

No HOLLIS in the index - sorry

OK Thanks Marilyn for looking

Hi Margaret
I found an obituary to your relative Edward Allitt today in the
Northampton Independent Newspaper.
I am afraid that I can not send you a copy as all the Newspaper
Articles from the Northampton Mercury (1700's upwards) and the Northampton
Independent and Chronicle and Echo and Mercury and Herald are still
under copyright and therefore can not be passed on or charged for :( :( :(
I am going to watch W.D.Y.T.Y A. in a while but if I have time I will type it for you
tomorrow as it is a large obituary or give you the date and details and you could
ask for a copy yourself . ;D ;D ;D
If you would prefer the date and year I will P.M. it to you just say.
Cheers Sandy

Hi Margaret
As you sent me a P.M. yesterday re: Edward Allitt and the fact you still had not had
any word about the article from the Northampton Independent
I asked in the Library for you today.
I had it confirmed that I could have a copy taken for you and that the cost would be
only the 70 pence it cost me.
I was also asked to ensure that it was made clear that it was for personal use only
and was not going to be dis-played anywhere on the Internet or Personal Web Pages.
I will therefore P.M. you again so you can have it for your self at last. :)

Whoops P.S.
They gave me a compliment slip saying I could send it to you.
Now on it's way.

Hello to all on this post.
I am researching the law family and I was in Northampton this past June as my g grandfather was a mayor in Northampton. I personally met the present mayor and spent some time in the Guildhall. A fascinating building and they have photos of each Mayor starting 1860/61
Somewhere around there. Also there is a hallway with plaques listing the names of mayor's going back to the 1300's.
I am also interested in the book that was mentioned, where do I look for that. Thanks. Have a great day to all
I also found this here is a link http://www.northampton.gov.uk/downloads/Mayors_Booklet.pdf list of mayors going back to 1200
