Title: Eli Whysall : Codnor/Pentrich
Post by: FRC on Friday 29 September 06 18:06 BST (UK)
I have located Eli Whysall, my g.g.g. grandfather, in the 1851 & 1861 censuses, which show him living in Codnor & Loscoe.

The 1851 census suggests that he was born in Codnor, whilst in 1861 his birthplace is stated to be Pentrich.

I cannot find him in the 1841 census & IGI merely gives his marriage.

Does anyone have any information regarding his parents or siblings? Any facts would be most appreciated.

Ooops!

I forgot to mention that Eli Whysall was born in 1805 & that his wedding was in 1826, his wife's name being Elizabeth Granger.

This seems to be them in 1841:

1841 census  HO107/21/29/20

Elias WHYSALL 30 - coal miner Y
Elizabeth 30 Y
Mary 12 Y
Elizabeth 9 Y
John 3 Y
Vincient (sic) 1 Y

Address: Codnor, Township of Codnor & Loscoe, Derbyshire

There is a family with a similar name a few doors earlier (Wm & Catherine WITSTER?)- what do you think about them for his parents?  Might be a coincidence!

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi Arranroots

Thanks very much indeed. That must be the right family, as the children's names & ages all fit. I missed it because the database I used had Elias's surname mis-spelled.
