Hi Sandra

I am primarily researching the Purnell families of Hampshire and IOW.

I am aware that there is also a large family base around Clutton and Gloucestershire in general. I have been in touch with several researchers of the Gloucestershire Purnells but at the moment I have not been able to establish any link.

Happy to help in any way that I can.

Hi Alan,

My Purnells all come from Clutton but they later married at Bristoll and came to South Wales. I have the full decendency fo rthe Elizabeth Purnell (g.g.grandmothers lines to present day)) but I am trying to trace her husband William Rogers
line pre 1837 he was also born in Clutton, and no father's name of wedding certificate.
I am also looking for Jacob Purnell her brother b 1833 who moved to South wales also.

Hello Sandra

I have checked thru all my Purnell records. I do have record of descendants of the Hampshire Purnell Family settling in Wales but all North, (Bangor, Anglesea, etc) and no record of a William Rogers. My research is on going and I will certainly let you know if any connection becomes apparent.
Regards
Alan

Good to see there are other people interested in the Purnell family!

I have been trying to learn more about the ancestry of a Mary Caroline Lucy Purnell who married a Robert Pitkethley in Sydney, Australia in 1885.  She was commonly known as Lucy, and was the daughter of Charles Henry Purnell and Sarah Ann Clegg.  Charles and Sarah were married at Newington, Surrey in 1837 and lived ar Southwark, Surrey before emigrating to New Zealand some time before 1858 when Lucy was born.

Charles was not born in Surrey, according to the 1841 census.  I wonder if he might have been one of the Gloucestershire Purnells?

I have found two other Purnell families living in Surrey around the same time.  I suspect these families are related to each other, but no evidence yet.

Does anyone have any knowledge of, or interest in, the Surrey and the New Zealand Purnells?  I will be glad to share what I have.

Rex

Hi Rex

I have quite a lot of information about this family in NZ, but would welcome information about Lucy's family in Australia.

Hi there, my husband is descended from Charles Purnell and Sarah Ann Clegg who came to NZ in the 1850s. I've only just begun researching this side of the family and have some info on NZ descendants.

Hi.
Thanks for the link but I don't think there is any connection to my Purnells. All , including Charles Purnell came to Wales to live and died here to my kknowledge.
Thanks again,
Sandra

Hi Simon, thanks for the link to info on the New Plymouth Purnells, from whom my husband is directly descended. Saved me a lot of time mapping out the tree!

Hello my name is Trevor Purnell and I am searching my ancestors who hail from Clutton.  I have a Samuel Purnell born 1768, married Elizabeth Parfitt and had three children Samuel, Jacob and Ruth.  I believe that his wife died and he remarried (Jane Kimmings) and went on to have another six children. Of these six Charles born 1825 or 26 is the line I am interested in since it leads to my grandfather, Charles Purnell, who moved to Newport, married Alice Griffin who gave died in child birth giving birth to my father Stanley, Griffin.  Grateful if you have information on this line.

James Purnell born abt 1602 in Boldre, Hampshire married to Joane Rheade/Rhodes in 1627 in Boldre is a bit of a brickwall.

Looks like the same Purnells that you are researching Allan and I would be grateful for any information.
