Bishop moved from norfolk to Doncaster around 1905 he took his wife and seven children with him. In those days it was a very rare event to move a young family over 140 miles. I think it was possible that he moved to work at the Plant as he was a blacksmith at the Midland and Great Northern joint railway workshops at Melton Constable in Norfolk. Does anyone know how I can check this out and is there any more cases of Norfolk men moving to Doncaster.

HI,
In 1901, there are 159 males living in Doncaster who were born in Norfolk....so not too unusual.

Hi again,
I did a quick sample and the first three entries that I checked on the 1901 census showed that the men who were born in Norfolk and living in Doncaster were all working on the railway...so your theory is correct.

Thanks for confirming my theory. I went to the Doncaster archives who have records of everyone who worked at the workshops in Doncaster. I found out that Bishop moved to Doncaster in 1911 and worked as a smithy on 5/- a day.
