Title: Just had to tell someone!
Post by: nanny jan on Wednesday 27 September 06 14:52 BST (UK)
I've just had a contact through GenesReunited  who are connected to a family who have been tricky to trace.  Just hope he has lots of info for me........pathetic isn't  it to get so excited about this.

Will go and have a cuppa and calm down.......

Oh no, it's not pathetic, it's wonderful. I have only started tracing my family recently, but I can imagine how frustrating it must be to come up against a brick wall.

Congratulations and not pathetic at all. That's one of the reasons we are all here. So you have someone who will share your enthusiasm.

Hope it brings loads of family info.

Congratulations and I agree with Kath and Kate.  Besides if you don't share it with us here when you get excited your family think you have gone nuts (or in my experience anyway) ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

Congratulations...you lucky person :D

Pathetic or not, I don't think I have been so enthusiastic about anything for years. ;D
I was like a child at Christmas this morning as I opened a very important certificate...now you can't buy that feeling 8 :)

Hope you get loads of info from the connection

Good for you  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I rarely get any contacts, so I know the feeling of excitement.  I've had to calm down a bit now though, as I've realised that I may come across as a stalker  ;)

Well done

This site is great for showing your excitement without being dragged away by men in white coats who have been called by your family

I don't get half as much fun telling my family as I do telling everyone on here

I'm still waiting for him to reply to my message but even one extra bit of info will be very welcome.

My 83 year old dad is even more excited than I am!   Just a pity mum isn't alive to share in it with us; it's one of her many cousins.

That one extra bit is often some of the best you receive as you can then go from there yourself

A tentative enquiry by a fellow researcher led me to 18 first cousins I never knew I had.
So  I literally jumped for joy when I got that e mail.

Hi,
I am a bit like wheeldon.  Everytime I saw the name and town I am interested in, I would write away - and it gets that you forget who you have written to or not.
I went to great lengths to try to get information and feel that I may have been 'a little over the top' as well, though it is becoming so frustrating that I feel I need to stop - and then something good may happen to me.

That's great nanny jan.  I have met some wonderful friends and rellies on Genesconnected, and I can't imagine my life without them now.  Only recently I had an email from a lady who gave me some information on my great great aunt, right down to her grave number, and I was over the moon, and so grateful.

love

Just heard back from my contact! They have only just got going on their research so they have not got any info for me but they have sent a wonderful selection of photos.

Even if I have not found the birth or marriage details I certainly know what some of them look like!  Luckily my dad has been able to put names to some of the people in the group wedding shots.

It's been a great day for old photos!

I was recently contacted by someone on Genes Reunited who had traced his tree back to the 1600's We both have the same 8x Gt Grandfather. He has written 2 books about the family. He very kindly printed them out and sent it to me, He only wanted me to pay for the postage. Although some of his rellies are of another branch to mine( he came down from a different son than me) its a very interesting read. Although I had the names it is very exciting to be able to put more information to them.

Photos, how wonderful! It must be great to be able to put faces to names.

I have pics of my grandparents (obviously) and most of my great grandparents, but after that nothing. Everytime I discover someone new I wonder what they would have looked like - I have these images in my head, but the chances are I'm completely wrong.

We do have a mystery photo in amongst my gran's collection of family pics, and the subject looks just like me. No one knows who this girl is, but I have pondered her identity for years, and I do hope I find a suitable candidate. The pic was taken about 1910 (I'm guessing based on the clothes) but she resembles me more than any members of my immediate family.

Enjoy your photos!

Kate

Wonderful. I love photos. I have a bunch of old ones from part of my mom's side and I am confident I will be making contact with a branch of the family shortly that will have pictures of my gg grandmother (keep fingers crossed).

The oldest photo I have is from my dad's line......Isabella, my gtgtgrandma born  1816.

This latest batch, from mum's side, are from 1930s-1950s.

Like Kate I have some mystery ones; a really good one of a family (I guess)...dad, mum and 6 children but not one name for them. It's so frustrating!

ooohhhh photos !!  ;D Lucky devil

i love my old photos and I sometimes would rather have just one photo than a whole load of info that I may already have anyway. Even if I have to scan the original and give it back I don't care.

Like they say - a picture paints a thousand words (I think that is how it goes)

Here's my gtgrandma Ellen; who has caused me a lot of trouble.  She never married my gtgrandpa and her parents never married.

One of the batch I received recently.

What a great photo - she sounds like a very independent lady.

"Like Kate I have some mystery ones; a really good one of a family (I guess)...dad, mum and 6 children but not one name for them. It's so frustrating!"

Yes, it is frustrating. I have a list of 'suspects' who could be my mystery woman based on age and date, but I will probably never know for sure. I suppose it's a lesson to us to label photos, we may know who the subject is, but future generations might not.

From what I've heard of her she was a lovely lady; she had 10 children and the youngest was just 4 when her "husband" died.  Sadly I cannot remember her but as I was her first greatgrandchild I was much fussed over by her!

Hi, I've just been in contact with a newly found rellie in New Zealand lately and have now been sent a cd with 36 pages of stuff about this particular familyline and also just under 20 pages worth of information about a trial in court involving a 6 times greatuncle of mine on this line who was sentenced to death for being a highwayman, fantastic, can't wait to present my grandmother (who descends from this line) with all this info. Just found this new relie by googling.
