Please can somebody help me trace any more detail about this family on the 1861 census
James Mcbride C1811 Head Bricklayer born Irleland
Mary Mcbride C1821 also born ireland
They lived at 51 Grandby Row Manchester
Any help pre and post this date would be great.

Right then ;D
Details of which I can kind of match in on 1871 Census are: -
James Mc Bride (Boarder)
born abt 1813 aged 58 Co. Down Ireland
Widower
Cotton Sorter
32 Davies Street, Liverpool
There is a death of a Mary McBride in 1870 (Qtr Oct - Dec) born abt 1819 died aged 51 in Manchester
There is a death of a James McBride in 1873 (Qtr Oct-Dec) born abt 1810 died aged 63 in Manchester
There are that many James McBrides in the 1841 / 1851 census's and because there isnt much information provided on those census's I cant really match up.
If you do get any more information on the McBrides let us know and perhaps we can dig further. ;D

Many Thanks.
This one is a bit of a one!!!! I have traced my GG Grandfather (Henry McBride) James son. On Henry's wedding cert it states that hif father was James a shoemaker.....But I have no concrete evidence that James came to England. But Henry lived on Grandby row and got married in the church on grandby row. So I am really looking for Henry living with James to tie them together.
Henry was born in Ballybay Co monaghan but that doesn't mean James was.
I have found a record of a James Mcbride, shoemaker born Ballybay on the 1881 census but he is thirty years too young ??? ??? ???
Get you thinking cap on ;)

Hi Jane ;D
What year was Henry born and what year did he get married? Does it state on Henrys marriage cert if his father was deceased?

Right, I think I have found the correct people.
On the 1841 Census (which I have a copy of) we have the McBride family all born in Ireland living in the district of Hulme, Manchester

You are welcome Jane ;)
Its nice doing abit of digging round for others rather than your own ... sometimes I cant see the wood for the trees when I am on the Illingworths! ;D
Good Luck!

I had a look at that death reference for James you gave me and the name above his is Elizabeth!!!! The district is Chorlton which is the specific area of Manchester that most of the McBrides settled in......the plot thickens!!! ::)

Dont you just hate it though when you havent got 100% proof its them!
One of my ancestors died between the 1851 and 1861 Census's but there are about five Jonas Illingworths who died between the dates so I havent got a clue which certificate to order! ???
But it does seem to conincidental that Chortlon is the district.... keep digging!

Have you ordered a death cert before?
What sort of info does it have on. I think I read somewhere that sometimes is gives all offsprings names as well, but I could have made that up!! ;D
Well I haven't order a cert for ages so I'll give it a whirl, the good thing about Manchester is you can email the and order online.
I'll let you know what happens
Good luck looking for Jonas he'll be out there somewhere!!!

Hi Jane
Yep, I have ordered several death certificates - quite interesting read really ... but the information they give you, is obviously the name of the deceased, last address, age at death, cause of death and the important bit for me usually is the name of the informant and their relationship to the deceased.
My GGG Grandfather, Emanuel, died in 1907 and on his death cert, the informant was his grandaughter (Edith Batley) ... anyway I have recently been in touch with someone who is related to the Batleys (I always live in hope that there will be an old photo in someones loft of one of my ancestors ;)) ... well when I informed this person that his Great Great Aunt (Edith) was the informant of the death, he told his aging mother who nearly had a heart attack because Edith had run away from the Batleys in the early 1900's no one had heard from her since.... so she had done a runner from the Batleys to the Illingworths - Ediths mother, Jane, was Emanuels daughter so how the hell Jane didnt get wind of Edith living there I dont know ... but there you go! - handy little thing Death certificates! ha ha
