Hi there,
wondering if SKS could do a shipping lookup for me. I have Hugh MUIRHEAD arriving in Australia on Glen Isla in 1857, but would like to know his details. Can anyone help????
Cheers,
Donna.

hello there
you can purchase copy of his arrival from state records
or Laurence Turtle a transcription agent.
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/indexes/quicksearch.aspx?k=muirhead&scope=2
unless someone is going to the NSW State Records and can do the Look up for you.
it is interesting to note that another Hugh Muirhead also arrived that year on the John Bunyan aged 20 with his family.
hope this info helps you.

Hi Jenn,
thank you. Yes, this Hugh is a cousin of the Hugh that arrived on the John Bunyan in the same year. The uncle/father, Robert Purdie MUIRHEAD was my 2 x great grandfather. He listed his nephew as already being in the colony. I was hoping to verify details of Hugh's parents etc. He seemed to disappear one he arrived in Australia. I'm thinking he may have left NSW.
Thanks,
Donna.

hello Corsham
could he not be one of the single men???

Hi Jenn,
Good point! He could be one of the single men. :) Thought True Cruiser might won't to see who was listed by name. ;D
Cheers,
Corsharn :)

Yes, Hugh was a single man. Thanks Corsharn. Nice & easy to see at least :)
I believe Hugh's parents were James MUIRHEAD & Helen (Ellen) SUTHERLAND. I have the family in the 1841 Census of Stobbs Mills, Borthwick, Scotland. James was a Powder Maker.

Hi True Cruiser,
I don't know if this will have any connection to your Muirhead's, but just recently I saw on one of our local T.V shows that there was a book on the Muirhead family tree. I'll see what I can find. ;D
Glad to hear you didn't have any trouble reading the ships manifest. ;D ;D ;D
Cheers,
Corsharn

Thanks Corsharn. Would certainly be interested in details of the book. It's been a bit of a lonly seach for these MUIRHEADs until the last week or so.
