Hi,
I would like to trace the parents of James WHEELDON born circa 1824 in Ticknall. I would also like to know when he was born and if he was christened.
James married Hannah SNAPE in Castle Donington on 8 Jun 1845 and they appear in the 1851 census. I have a copy of the marriage certificate but, unfortunately, their fathers names are completely undecipherable.
Hannah died in 1856 and James subsequently married Sarah BIRCH.
Can anyone help?

Hi David
The IGI covers Ticknall for the relevant period (batch no. C059001) but James doesn't seem to be listed.
You say you have a copy of his marriage certificate but the fathers' names are illegible. I suggest you have a look at the actual parish register - with any luck the original details will have been clearly recorded.
And if James married twice, haven't you seen his second marriage certificate?

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the advice. I am descended from his first wife Hannah and had only a passing interest in his second marriage so have not sent for a marriage certificate. As I live in Devon, it might be the best option to obtain a certificate.

Hello again,
I have found the IGI record for James and Sarah's wedding which states James's fathers name as John WHEELDON. Could someone take a look at the 1841 census to see if there are any likely suspects?

Hello,
Had a look on 1841 and loads of possibles for John Wheeldon. Using dob 1800 + or - 10 years (???) came up with 13 John's living in Derbyshire, none showing Ticknell.
(Couldn't be that easy, could it??) :D
It might come down to John's occupation as that's the only thing that varies. Also, not knowing the area doesn't help, but can anyone spot anything in the following?:
Parish born Occupation
Bakewell 1796 Ag Lab
Dalbury and Lees 1805 Shoe Maker
Edlaston 1796 Ag Lab
Hognaston 1801 Blacksmith
Kniveton 1801 Blacksmith
Ockbrook 1801 Ag Lab
All Saints 1806 Wheelwright
Youlgreave 1794 Lead Miner
Etwall 1791 Farmer
St Alkmund 1791 Cotton Spinner (?)
Ashbourne 1811 Ag Lab
Darley 1811 Flax Dresser
Duffield 1811 Joiner (?)
Any help??

Hi Sally,
Ticknall is very close to the Leicestershire border. James married a woman from Hemington close to Castle Donington and married in Castle Donington. So could it be that he appears in the census for Leicestershire?
Thanks for looking :)
