Hi Debbie

If you are referring to the marriage in Guisbro' 9d 1299 the bride's name was Beck. On the cross reference she was called Alice M Beck so this is not the Mary Jane that you are looking for.

Sorry

Hi Debbie

You could try searching in the complete GRO indexes which are now available free of charge on the Ancestry site. You will have to register with your name and email address.

Here is the link

Ive tried a search on Ancestry of marriages from 1912 (he would have been 16 then) up to 1920 when he died, but im clutching at straws really because i dont know where he married.Originally born and lived in Marske, but at time of death was living in Sedgefield,Durham. Some of the other marriages ive looked for have been Guisborough district and some have been Stockton district, and not living locally im rubbish with the geography up North.(Does anyone else find they have this problem?) Will try again searching through pages of could be's.Grateful for your time in replying.

Debbie

On the 1901 census there is a John W Smith born c1894 in New Marske. His parents are Thomas R Smith and Mary A Smith. Thomas was a Deputy Iron Miner. There is another John W Smith born in New Marske c1900 shown on the 1901 census but I assume that the c1894 one is appropriate. If so, any marriage certificate that you consider obtaining could be made conditional on the father being called Thomas R Smith.

I found a Mary J Barnett marrying a John W Smith in Northallerton 1913 AMJ quarter 9d 1199. It is a long shot but it is the only Mary J that I have seen in the general area, so far, marrying a John W Smith within the range of years that you gave.

It might be worth a try if you do not find anything else ?

Glad i dont live near you or you'd probably throttle me! Im really sorry, its not Mary Jane its Margaret Jane.Through 3 generations of these Smiths most of the women are called Mary Ann,Mary Jane or Margaret! And the men aren't much better John,William,Thomas and Robert run through4 generations.I hope you didnt spend too long searching and i promise next time to be extra careful!!!  :-[

Hi Debbie

I haven't forgot your grave pic but it is pouring down here so hoping tomorrow will be better.

As for your geography if in the Marske/New Marske area the nearest office is Guisborough, Stockton was known as Co Durham, which is where the the Sedgefield would be registered at.

Guisborough is about 7/8 miles from and Stockton is about 15 miles and Sedgefield is about 20 miles, I live in Redcar.  I hope that helps you slightly with the areas  ;D  any my geography is poor to say the least lol

Pray for sunshine tomorrow for your pics

Jane ;D

Debbie

Not to worry. As Jane says it has been raining most of the day and after 39 years of living with Mrs S I am well used to that sort of thing !

How about this one

1917 Sedgefield AMJ quarter 10a 292
