He is quite well documentated in Durham.

Hi Colin
Did they have any children after July 1837 so you could get a birth cert which will have mothers maiden name on.

Hi Jelly baby,
Only had a son Isaac but he was born around 1827, but thanks anyway.

Hi Colin,
Sarah, it appears was born in 1800.
The census returns are quite consistant about this
and it is confirmed by BMD.
With the excepton of the 1881 which claims she was
born in Bishopton, all the earlier ones state Darlington
as a place of birth.
The 1851 returns have Isaac with the middle name
of Pearson. I was hoping this may have been the
maiden name of Sarah, but so far nothing at all?
Joseph, in 1841 was a Timber Merchant, therefore in the
space of ten years he became a Colliery Owner.
I "googled" this and you are right, Joseph is very well
documented, it is a shame there doesn't appear to be
anything about his earlier years.
You will no doubt be already aware of the above facts,
but just in case anyone else is following this up it
might be of help?
Regards,
Pels :)

Hi Pels,
Thanks for all that, it is documented that Joseph was a former pitman who married into wealth, I looked at the Pearson side and found a Pearson near Darlington, Peircebridge, who had the local Mill, but again difficult to put the two together, oo for a 1831 census!!
Cheers
