a montage is a collection of photos grouped together to form one picture. see the photograph restoration board there is a topic there on how to do it.  :)
here's the link - Gadget uses one "avatar montage"

mc8 ... take it all as 'interesting' and dont let it bother you ... we ALL have skeletons in the cupboard !

I'm divorced; my dad was illegitimate; his mum was an illiterate washer-woman, married twice and with 'daliances' (he was the result of one of them) ... then I discover her mum was from a Cornish family that whizzed me back to 1550 and lots of interesting side facts ...

All part of life's rich tapestry, as they say !!

Having listened to it since Dick Barton, Special Agent, stopped, I wouldnt miss it for anything, tho' having been living abroad and missed an 11 year chunk, nothing much had changed !  (But my Mum sent me the occasional synopsis !)

I ordered 3 certificates on 28 August and got them today.  Unfortunately one of them was the wrong one: as in a surname I've never even heard of before.  The worst thing is that the one I ordered was hopefully my great gran's birth certificate and should finally solve a mystery it has taken me years to untangle  :(

Mine arrived today, within a week. I was very impressed.

Also surprised. I was expecting the death certificate of my gg uncle, but instead got the death cert. of his namesake, my-would-have-been-great-uncle, only 17 days old. Sad. I had no idea that child had existed before. Poor gran.

A lucky but sad find then Meles.

I think I have found the brother of my ggg grandfather that way.

Ordered a death cert for Corles Baldwin, and when the cert arrived it was for a 4 year old boy and I think, because they are irish and the use of the very unusual name that the child's father must be the son of Corles.

Or at least that is what I hope to find one day!

Well as predicted, mine arrived today from RM via TNT  :(

It wasn't a very pleasant one though. The death certificate of my 2 x great grandfather in 1879. It records that he had his left leg amputated by an engine while crossing a railway line (close to his house).and died 5 days later on 26th December of 'amputation and exhaustion' . It also records that he was tresspassing.

This line seems to be full of such nasty deaths. 25 years later his son died by being crushed to death by coal wagons at the pit bottom and 55 years earlier his father, aged 25, also died in a mining accident.

Title: GRO certificate delays?
Post by: Curtis on Wednesday 13 September 06 10:51 BST (UK)
I orded two certificates from the GRO 31 Aug and was given an estimated despatch date of 6 Sept. I am still awaiting said certificates. I understand there may be delays now with the current series of WDYTYA showing, but this order predates the first programme.

Is anyone else experiencing delays? Thought I would ask before I contact GRO.

Thanks - Tony

My one dated the 15th September arrived today, 1 day late.

However, I ordered another one a couple of days later and the despatch date was still the 15th and it hasn't arrived yet.  Perhaps they are only updating the despatch date every few days or each week?

If yours hasn't arrived then it could be if you ordered it towards the end of that despatch date so it might take a little longer.

My husband was 33 when his father died and he never told him of this uncle and I found out there was another one also, infact he told him nothing at all about his family  his grandmother died when he was  9 and he never met her, this make me feel so cross.  If I hadn't done family history he would never have know anything.

Really desperate to know who is the mother, cause on one census they are Charlotte's, ten years later they are Carolines. I suppose that is what can happen if the father  re-marries but it's sad for the real mum.

Delivery time seems very inconsistent. I ordered 2 certs, one for shipment on the 12 Sept and the other shipment the 14th. The second one arrived the 17 Sept and  am still waiting for the first. My e-mail to ONS got the standard response we will reply within 5 working days. That was 6 working days ago. 2 more e-mails remain unanswered.

All this when I was thinking how good the recent service had been

I was  lucky I had access to the 1851 census, and proves a point to  newbies like me.

We shouldn't just accept other people's  Tree's however many state the same details or LDS Submitters without checking first.

I absolutely agree with you, when I first started this, I was given a couple of trees by different people and just accepted the information.  However now, 2 years down the line with my own research I have been able to clear up quite a few discrepancies.

Had to have a lie down to recover from the shock ...  ;D

I've ordered more than I'd care to count - because I don't want to know how much I've spent on them!   :-\  My experience is that the length of time varies between three weeks plus  >:(and (on one occasion) the next day :D.  It varies according to the time of year.  For some reason there are seasonal variations in the degree to which we all feel genealogically inclined!

They might have employed uni students which have gone back now, be interesting to see how the times "hold up"

One certificate ordered 22/9 - despatch date 2/10.

Received here in NZ today - 4th October !

Thats fantastic Emmeline if it was dispatched on the 2nd to arrive on the 4th :o thats quicker than our internal 1st  class mail sometimes.  I had to return something to NZ only took about a week which I thought wasvery good.

Many years ago I almost emigrated to NZ, pulled out at the last minute, could not leave my family, have spent the rest of life thinking "what if". I am definitely going to have a holiday sometime.

Hello Patrish - Yes, a very good delivery time - and the correct certificate too !
I have been in NZ (from London) so long - brought here as a teen-ager - that I must now consider myself a Kiwi.
Hope you make your trip one day though not quite the Land of Milk and Honey we first came too. Time changes everything.
Kind regards.......

The one I ordered on the 26th arrived to-day, that's another rellie confirmed  ;D ;D  and proves I was tracing the correct father.

I also had to order one by phone to-day, I couldn't understand the page number because the ink had faded...£1.50 extra because I was unable to order 0n-line ???

another one arrived on Saturday, so 4 out of 5, but none today  :'(
I've just phoned and been told I have to phone again tomorrow, have to allow exactly 1 week before they will reissue. Don't know what's happened to it, estimated despatch was 3/10/06
Still it's a lot better than last year when WDYTYA was on!

Hi

1st of three certificates I ordered on 30 Sept, est despatch 9 Oct, arrived today in Perth Western Australia.  Not bad I thought, although as suspected no father's name recorded on birth certificate, so no further progress to be made there  :(  But where are the other 2???

Also ordered one on 3 Oct with est despatch of 10 Oct so maybe it will be here by the end of the week

my "missing" one turned up on Tuesday 8th October, despatch date 3rd October. To be fair, I think it was despatched the form inside said "despatch date 3/10. I ordered it on 26th Sept. So probably TNT postal service.

I recently did not receive a certificate. After 3 e-mails I got a reply saying that they had difficulty to reply within the 5 day limit. I also said that I hoped that theywere not having postal delays similar to when they used Deutsche Post some 2 years ago. The final e-mail from them said that they were experiencing problems with their postal supplier( TNT).

I received a reissue of the cert. twice.

The one I received yesterday (10th) had despatch date 9th.  I hadn't really expected it until today, so was quite pleased when it turned up yesterday.

It was just a single order, though.  I wonder if that's making any difference?

definitely-I routinely send mine as single orders now-especially as there is no cost advantage to send off in batches

One I ordered on the 7th came today, 17th, but in fairness, that was only 6 working days (and 2 weekends).

It just seems like forever when you are at the gate every day, waiting to grab the mail from the postman !

Anyone else having a delay in receiving their certs? I ordered one on the 6th Oct with a despatch date of the 13th Oct but have it hasn't arrived yet.

Do you think that I should be concerned? They have always turned up more or less on time before. EVEN hubby is asking if it's arrived yet!!

The site has a note on it now  saying that due to the current series of WDYTYA they expect to get a lot of requests which may affect the delivery time. So I guess someone has been reading RootscChat  ;D

I applied for 3 certificates on 15th estimated despatch date is 23rd so I will be watching the post in anticipation especially as I hope one may well show the name of g-g-g-grandfather  :)

Have noticed one thing - If you send off for multiple copies they don't always come in one envelope. I even had two envelopes for a couple who died two days apart. So I guess it may be whoever digs up the certificate copies it then posts it rather than collecting all together for one addressee. Which I suppose in a way is logical if they are getting thousands of requests.

Got all three of them today in one envelope and it's the 23rd   Well done ONS  ;D ;D

Also got g.g.g.grandfathers name (Philip) hope it's right because the bride was listed as a widow on the 1851 census is shown as a spinster !!!

So one puzzle gets solved but another gets opened. :(
