Hi Kidsnana

I have Liverpool Jones but not these  :(

I think I have them for you in 1871
RG10/3791 folio 71 pg 3
9 Ct 1 House Ben Johnson Street, Islington, Liverpool

Robert Jones; head; mar; 40; ropemaker
Hannah do; wife; mar; 31
Thomas do; son; 9; scholar
Edward do; son; 7; scholar
John H do; son; 1
All born Liverpool

Also in the house is John Miller; brother; unm; 20; labourer; Liverpool

Why his name is Miller is a good question  ???

FOUND THE SAME FAMILY AS SANDRA, BUT SHE POSTED QUICKER!

1871:
RG10/3791; Folio 71; Page 43
9 Crt 1H Ben Johnson St, Liverpool

Robert Jones - Head - 40 - Rope Maker - b. Liverpool
Hannah Jones - Wife - 31 - b. Liverpool
Thomas Jones - Son - 9 - Scholar - b. Liverpool
Edward Jones - Son - 7 - Scholar - b. Liverpool
John H Jones - Son - 1 - b. Liverpool
John Miller - Brother - 20 - Labourer - b. Liverpool

If this is the same family (Edward's age fits), there's a marriage on Free BMD, confirmed by Lancashire BMD:

Marriages Jun 1861
JONES    Robert
MILLER    Hannah
Liverpool 8b 261

However, that doesn't fit very well with Thomas Finch, father-in-law, unless f-in-law is used in the old sense of "stepfather"...?  Will see if I can find a better match...  ???

Hi again

I reckon that Finch is a slight red herring with regards as to whether or not he is Hannah's father.  If you take the 1871 census info from Rambler it gives a brother, John Miller aged 20 living them.  Suppose that it should have said brother in law and not brother, making Hannah a Miller before her marriage; re the marriage that Rambler also found.

If this is correct then here they are in 1861:
RG09 Piece 2668 Folio 58 Page 20
5 Court Denison Street, Liverpool.
Thomas Miller Head 45 Boatman b. Layton, Lancashire
Jane Miller Wife 50 Boatman's Wife b. Ireland
Hannah Miller Daur. Unmarried 21 b. Liverpool
John Miller Son 10 Scholar b. Liverpool

From the IGI:

Thomas Jones b. 30 Jan 1862 c. 9 Mar 1862 St. Peters, Liverpool, Lancashire
Parents= Robert Jones and Hannah
Sibling:
Edward Jones b. 24 Jan 1864 c. 14 Feb 1864 St. Peters, Liverpool, Lancashire

These may also belong to this family too:

Isabella Jones b. 10 Aug 1863 c. 18 Jul 1864 St. Peters, Liverpool, Lancashire to Robert Jones and Ann.
Robert John Jones b. 9 Dec 1862 c. 27 Jan 1863 St. Peters, Liverpool, Lancashire to Robert Jones and Ann.
Robert Bertram Jones b. 9 Oct 1862 c. 12 Feb 1863 St Peters, Liverpool, Lancashire to Robert Jones and Anna.

I'll see what else I can find for you.
Joanne  ;)

IGI has:

Hannah Miller daughter of Thomas Miller & Jane
baptised St Peter's Liverpool on 28/10/1839

Also possible  :-\
Thomas Miller & Jane Fulton
marriage at St Nicholas, Liverpool on 4/2/1839

No Finch anywhere in sight  ???

I've been looking everywhere for Thomas Finch - no joy whatsoever..  :(

There's a possible candidate in 1841 (a plumber & glazier) with wife Ann and 5 kids, but no child to match Robert Jones, so no proof it's the right guy.

I'm reasonably sure the Miller connection is the right one, but don't like loose ends!  (Plus I have a Finch connection in Lancashire, although mine is Manchester, not Wigan.)

Back again

No news on Finch but .. .. ..

1861 census, RG 9/2395 folio 25 pg 44
9 Ct 1 House Ben Johnson Street, Islington, Liverpool

John Jones; head; mar; ropemaker
Jane do; wife; 61
Robert do; son; unm; 35; dock labourer
Edward do; son; unm; 25; twine spinner
Jane do; dau; unm; 19
Hellen Smith; visitor; 3
All born Liverpool

Also, next door
Catherine Jones; serv; 17; domestic servant; Liverpool

Seems a bit of a coincidence to have the same address & the rope making connection  ;D

Would need checking with a lookup on the marriage of Robert & Hannah.

Hi Kids Nana,

Am new to this research but am interested in your Robert & Hannah Jones.
My great grandfather on my Mum's side was Joseph Jones b 1874, the son of Robert Jones & Hannah Finch. Am actually stuck as only info on the Finch side is that Hannah's dad was Thomas and lived with the family in Cazneau Street in 1881 ( born Wigan).
And as for the Jones's...... so many in the Liverpool area and not sure of their original place of birth.
I would welcome any more info you may have.
Sue
