During the 1970s I lived in Richmond Terrace, Ulverston. Living at No. 8 was Mr and Mrs Townson, their daughter and son-in-law. I think the son-in-law was called George Penrith (might not have been George but was definitely Penrith). I think he and his wife are still around in Ulverston. If you think they might be related to you I can make some further enquiries with my family who still live in Ulverston - my mother knew the family well.

Hi there, I am actually an ancestor of John James Townson, He was my Great Grandfather, my Grandfather being his son, David Spencer Townson also born in Ulverston 1916. I have also stumbled across an Eleanor G Townson and Richard M Townson born in Ulverston 1912-1914 whose mother's maiden name was Hewitt but can't find any census information on them so any help would be greatly appreciated. It seem that Granpa John had many children as I have so far found approx 11 on Ancestry.co.uk but will need to check these names with my father. I know that John was know as Captain, don't know whether that refers to his position held or whether just a nickname because he was known to be strict. Will hopefully find out more soon.
Are you related?

Hi---sorry it has taken me so long to reply ( I have to admit I have not been checking for a long time)
My wife's maiden name is Townson, daughter of Edward John (known as Jack)
Apparently John James Townson was a Master Mariner
If you want to have a look at my family tree it is available on Ancestry
Regards
Alan
