Researching a David G. Reid who migrated to NZ with his family in 1865 on the Belgravia. His married dau., Johanna McHugh dies in Melbourne in April 1887 & her death notice quotes 'Foyle Road, Derry'. Any links?
-
Here are some Reids born in area in possible timescale for David and maybe even his father, this may help narrow down your search:
REID DAVID 1815
REED DAVID 1829
REID DAVID 1830
REED DAVID 1836
REID DAVID HUGH 1847
REID DAVID 1847
also, marriages
REID DAVID ALEXANDER MARY ANNE 1853
REID DAVID GLEN GRAY ROSE 1855
REID DAVID LINDSAY MARGARET 1863
interestingly, the following also appears as a birth
REID JOHANNA 1887
Could possibly be a relative naming their child after the Johanna who died.
Actual records for above are not available to view online but should be obtainable through the Genealogy Centre in Londonderry.
Hope this is of help.

Hi Bruce, I am the Great Great Grand daughter of Johanna Reid who was married to Bernard Francis McHugh in 1868 in Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. I know this information to be true as I have a copy of their marriage certificate which states that Johann's father was a D.G. Reid, him being named as the witness at their wedding. I would be happy to help you with your enquiry to the best of my ability. Please reply at your convenience. Regards, Carmen.

Hi
I have just noticed this old post of yours while researching my Family tree and noticed we have family in common. I am the Great grandson of Francis McHugh Reid born 1867 Napier New Zealand who we believed was the son of David Glen Reid. After reading your post I am wondering if Francis is actually the first child of Johanna Reid and Bernard Francis McHugh pre their marriage. We always wondered where the McHugh came from in his name and Francis and McHugh are also Catholic names whereas the Reids were not. What do you think? Also do you have any idea who David Glen Reid's first wife was the mother of Johanna? We have Rose Gray as his wife but she is his second wife.
Cheers
Graham Reid

Quite a bit later than when David Reid left Derry but it is Foyle Road-
Administration with Will Annexed of the estate of the late Alexander Reid, 44 Alma Terrace, Foyle Road, Londonderry, Co. Londonderry, Private 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, who died 29 September 1918, granted at Londonderry 12 March 1919 to Elizabeth Reid, Spinster. Effects: £194 15s. (Will Extracts- www.proni.gov.uk)
This could be the same Alexander Reid but he a boarder in the household-

Ten years earlier there's a Mary Reid, Foyle Road but she's born Scotland and daughter in Co. Down-

Unfortunately, Reid is a common surname in the area. However, lots of new resources for Ulster have come online in the last few years so...
David Glen Reid married 13 Nov.1855 to Rose Gray

Even better is this death I found from the Londonderry Sentinel, 18 Jan.1861-
"January 11, James, aged 3 months, youngest son of Mr. David G. Reid, Foyle Street."

Thanks for all that information. It is very helpful as the Reids are difficult being such a common name.
Cheers

Johanna Reid is my 2nd Great Grandmother and l have a bit of information about her including photos of her and Bernard if interested. Their daughter Elizabeth was my great Grandma.
-
Further to Johanna's mother was Anne Robertson who died in 1854. Born 4th August 1920. Her and David married in Scotland on the 8th of December 1843. He must have remarried pretty quick after she died.

Hi Jacqui
A very belated request.
Johanna & Bernard are my Great grandparents via their first child, Mary Ann McHugh & her daughter Dorothy Jane Orton.
I would be very pleased to see their photos & to receive any information you may have about them.
Thanks.
Kind regards,
Bruce Angus (Melbourne).
