Hello,
Could some kind person give me a bit of help.
I am looking for the parents of Thomas Heighway b. Madeley 1836, and Mary b. 1837/8. These 2 children appear in the 1841 census with a family called Brown. I also have a Josiah and Sarah Heighway. Both born 1803. Married in 1834. Sarah (maiden name Nailor) dies in 1837/8 and Josiah in 1844. Could they be the parents?? Josiah is listed at the Woodbridge Inn in 1841.
Grateful for any help
thanks
Pam

I don't know if you've followed this line but it seems that Thomas married Sarah Roberts in Shifnal in 1862 (Quarter1 Vol 6a page 853). This marriage certificate should give his father's name.
Good luck

Hi Gill,
Thank you for replying. Thomas is my gggrandfather and I have his line to present day, but not further back than 1841. Do you know where I might find his marriage details?

Hi Pam,
I think I may have found something which could help you get further back. If you had Mary's birth certificate it would give you her father's name and her mother's maiden name. You could then check the parish registers for their marriage etc.
I had a look on familyrelatives for you and the only Mary Heighway I found in the period 1837-1838 was in Q4 1837 Registrars district Madeley Vol 18 page 81.
Good luck

Hi Gill,
I have that info too on Mary so it appears to be the same one. I will find out about getting Mary's birth certificate, as for parish records that may prove difficult as I live in the South of England, so am not sure how I'd go about that.
Thank you for your help, and good luck in your searches.

The name Heighway rang a bell.
I checked my family (Rowley) records which are generally in the Telford area and confirmed that my ancester Mary Ann Rowley born 1857 in Lawley married William Heighway born 1857 in Madeley.
Their children were John, Janlemoor William, Mary Ann, Sarah Alice and George Edward.
I am going to Shrewsbury Records Office tomorrow and wil note any Heighways I come across as I am looking particularly at pre 1840 records in the Madeley, Dawley, Wellington areas.

There were at least 3 Thomas Heighways born that year in Madeley.
People were not very inventive in those days
I will be checking Madeley and Dawley Church records for 1780 to 1830 tomorrow
My ancestors were in that area, my main one was born in Malinslea, Dawley in 1791 and married in Dawley Magna in 1824
I will let you know how I get on

Haf only a limited time at Shrewsbury yesterday as it closes at 1:00pm Thursdays
However came across the following:
Dawley Magna Parish Records:
Aug 8th 1687 William s. of Richard Heigway & Mary Baptism
Dawley Magna is a village just north of Madeley, Shropshire
It is now right on the edge of Telford New Town Centre

Really appreciate you taking the time to look up Heighway stuff.
Let me know how you got on with your own stuff.
