Title: LAWRENCE Family of Thatcham
Post by: PENLEE on Monday 04 September 06 08:59 BST (UK)
Hello,

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has

connections with the Lawrence family of Thatcham.

John Lawrence b1822 married Eliza Wheeler of Thatcham

b1823.   They had Thomas b1841,  James b1845,

Emma b1851,  Eliza b1853,  John b1855,  Sarah b1857,

Edwars b1860,  Louisa b1864,  Mary b1866 and Charles

b1870.

John was a Sadler and harness maker in Wantage but

returned to live in  Thatcham where he  was a corn dealer a

land owner also.

Thanks,

Penlee.

Hi Penlee
I have Just read your thread from earlier this month.
In my database I have a William Lawrence born c1815 Thatcham. In 1840 he married a Sophia Hearne nee Nicholes, although I suspect but cannot prove he may have had another wife prior as in 1851 he has a son living with the family born 1834. I have not been able to track down parents or siblings for him and wondered if any of this sounded familiar.

Kind regards
Bob

Hello Bob,
Thank you for your message, it was nice of you to answer mine.
I have had a look at my family tree and have not found your William in it but that does not mean he is not there.
John Lawrence the sadler's father was Thomas Lawrence b1765.  His siblings were Jane b1758, Mary b1759, James b1760, John b1761, Rebekah b1763 and Noah b1765.
Noah married Lucy Drewett at Wickham in 1795 and he died in 1824 and is buried in the churchyard at Thatcham.
I just wonder if your William is a descendant  of James b 1760 , John b1761 or Noah b1765.  I do not know if James and John survived childhood.
John Lawrence b1822 was one of three surving sons of Thomas Lawrence b1765 who farmed Lodge Farm Thatcham but when Thomas died he left the farm to all three sons and they in turn sold it.
I hope this info. might be some use to you  The Lawrences (my ancestors) were all babtised at Thatcham and there are two rows of tombstones in the churchyard but most are rather impossible to read.
With best wishes,
Mary.
