Title: Where is/was Morchurch in Ireland
Post by: julianne Rowsell on Sunday 03 September 06 14:55 BST (UK)
Hi All

I was wondering if anyone knew where morchurch is/was in ireland.  I found a website that has morchurch on it but it does not say what part it is in.  The website is www.irishroots.com/id4330.htm

I am looking for an ancestor of mine Mary Meakin born in 1874 in Morchurch(this is where she says she was born in the 1901 census).  She married John Stcoker in 1894 in Oswestry, Shropshire.  Her fathers name on the marriage certificate is Thomas Meakin (deceased).  Her mothers maiden name is said to be Burke.

Can anyone give me a website that is free to search for irish births.

Hiya julianne,

The best www.thecore.com/seanruad offers is Moorechurch in Co. Meath.

Yes. Write to the Irish Genealogical Foundation (www.lowary.org/igf.htm). They are based in the US. They must have references and a source for this placename since they have included the name in the list. Have a careful look at their list. It's attrocious. They duplicate names all over the place. It would be shorter if the editor was any good. It looks to me like a case of publish and hope for the best. I went on a guided historical tour of Belfast on Saturday. It's quite possible to ask guides a lot of questions that they are unable to answer. The same comment applies to genealogists and publishers.  I'd be interested to see the reply you receive from the IGF.
I'm happy enough Morchurch and Moorechurch are one and the same place as John Broderick (Sean Ruad) did a lot of hard work on his website prior to his death on April 7th 2001.

Hi Julianne

I have some pictures of Moorechurch, County Meath (some of its derelict church/graveyard/roadside/fields - Moorechurch is a very small place - about 10/15 homes - lots of farming land - the nearest village is Julianstown)... do you want me to email them to you ? (if so just pm me your email address).

Kind regards, Karen

No problem Julianne - I'll dig them out and email them to you.

Julianne - I think you should delete your email address in your last post because of spam etc.

Many kind regards, Karen
