I have a Thomas ? Holes (I think this is the 1st name) m to Mary.
In the 1851 census Mary is there with her children,
George b c 1843 Bedfordshire
William b 1846 Luton Bedfordshire
Thomas may have been b in Toddington, Bedfordshire
Help, please.
-
struggling .... can you give the 1851 full reference please ?
sure its not HOLMES ?
-
No - definitely Holes.
This is what I have (stupidly have written a very cryptic message).
1851:
re Mary the mother -
Listed as 24 (673) in 1851 census
-
LOL - very cryptic .... well 673 doesnt seem to be a PIECE num, so maybe 24 is her age - not showing.. up tho ... yet - BUT SEE BELOW
The George and William I can find arent those DoBs ...
hmmm
-
The only Mary Holes explicitly shown with that spelling ..
HO107/1757 Folio 757 Page 34 - Luton, Beds

Mary Ann Holes 25 Wife Herts
Emily Holes 2 Luton

Mary Powell 5 do
Thomas Powell 32 do

heres the other reference I made -
HO107/1757 Folio 673 Page 38 - Luton
This is complicated and poorly written !
Ann Hawkins 28 Head (not ~~~ home) Lace Maker Herts
Thomas Hawkins 13
Sarah Hawkins 11
Emma Hawkins 15
Frederick Hawkins 9
John Hawkins 7
George Holes 5 'son of am' - born Herts, Hitchin Union [workhouse]
Mary Halles (sic) 24 'sister of ...' born Herts ~~~~
William Holes son born Beds, Luton Union [workhouse]
-
all of which doesnt reveal owt in 1841 !
-
It's this one - my cousin said something about them being in a workhouse.... Can you see that one any better?
George Holes 5 'son of am' - born Herts, Hitchin Union [workhouse]
Mary Halles (sic) 24 'sister of ...' born Herts ~~~~
William Holes son born Beds, Luton Union [workhouse]

::)
-
Thank you. :)
It looks as if Mary might have been the sister then and not the mother.....
-
Mary was William's mother; Ann was George's mother. Both women were (I believe) daughters of William Holes, and came from Offley; and neither Ann nor Mary appear to have been married when they gave birth (hence the Hitchin/Luton Union workhouse references).
-
Thanks - are you related?
-
(Through Ann)
-
We would be distantly related then. William Holes was my ggggsomething gfather. Do you have any more info?
Shall I PM you with an email address?
