that's amazing bob, the whole family move into number 3 on the 1901 census!!! good to hear the pub was still there, i was about to post another look up but can i be rude and ask you? george that you found above married blanche in 1899 and he is somewhere else on the 1901 census, could you find him for me?
-
Hi Joe,
Sorry I dont have the 1901 census.
Cheers
Bob

no problem bob, it was great to place the brothers on the 1891 census, i have had a wee thought since your last post and wondered if the whip makers made whips at home or if they had a wee shop somewhere? just a thought that i thought i would share with you. hope you had a good pint in the spread eagle, was it still called the spread eagle in 1891? i wonder how many men have been found spread eagled outside the pub?
-
Hi Joe,
The Spread Eagle was called that in 1891 and still in the 1960`s when it was owned by the boxer Terry Downs. I did have quite a few pints in there but at least it was very handy for the magistrrates court in Old Street.
Cheers

no doubt bob my family had a few pints in there too, being so close to the family home.
would some kind soul who has access to the 1901 census and reading this thread, find george stevens for me, he would be married, no doubt he is still a whip maker like his father, he would be aged 29/30 and his wife was called blanche muriel
