Title: lost street? - COMPLETE-
Post by: Curtis on Wednesday 30 August 06 13:03 BST (UK)
It is stated on one of my ancestors death certificate dated 1950 that residence at time of death was 33 Chiswick Road W9.
I cannot locate this road on a modern map, albeit there are two in existence in W4 and N9.

Does anybody know if it has changed name or if it still exists  ???

Any help appreciated - Tony

Hi,
There is a Chiswick Road N9 - Edmonton area by the looks of it. All the other Chiswick Lanes Roads etc are in W4 or W6. Maybe a wrong letter W instead of N?

It definately states W9 on the certificate, but it is entirely possible that it could be a typo  :-\

I looked at my 1950s A-Z and all Chiswick somethings are in W4 except the one in N9

Isn't W9 Westminster?

Where was the certificate issued?

Had a quick look on my 30s map with the same result- W4.

The certificate was ordered from the GRO.

My traceable ancestors originated from the Kensington/Notting Hill area of London (including the person and witness on the death cert).

I know that some family migrated across London ultimately settling in the Tottenham area. So I guess that either W4 or N9 cannot be ruled out  :-\

With the certificate I meant what registration district does it say at the top and what Sub-district.  It would let us know what part of London it was and might help.  At least we would know if it was North or West

I had some additional people interpret the lettering on the certifcate and without any prompting, all of them reckon it states N9. It appears I am the only one who read it as W9  >:(

With ths and the previous Rootschatter responses I guess I will have to hold my hands up in defeat and accept N9. I will however, check the sub-district as suggested  :)

Thanks - Tony
