Title: St Peter's Drogheda - JORDAN
Post by: fairlane on Monday 28 August 06 21:04 BST (UK)
I've just found this site and you seem a very friendly set of people. I'm interested in Simon Jordan (Mayor of Drogheda 1889-1891). He was my g.g.grandfather and married Bridget Garvey in August 1872. Any chance anyone in Drogheda could look in St Peter's for a gravestone for dates of birth, death etc. to narrow down the years of search for birth etc. I should have asked my mother for more detail years ago!

The gravestone inscription in St. Peter's is as follows:
"Erected by Alderman Simon Jordan, J.P. in memory of his wife, Bridget, 27th December 1912. The above Simon Jordan, 10th September 1921. Catherine M. Jordan, 27th May 1931, her brother, Francis Jordan, 23rd January 1937 aged 56 years and his wife, Anna Frances, 4th February 1969."

Many thanks for your help. I can now try and find an orbituary for Simon which may give some clues as to his place of birth etc. Although I know he was born c.1848 -1850 from his marriage certificate he does not seem to have been baptised around the immediate Drogheda area.
with thanks, Eileen
