Title: BARRON, George 1841, 1851
Post by: Kiwi007 on Monday 28 August 06 10:12 BST (UK)
Hello,

I have just started researching the BARRON and HOSSACK families from Moray.

I believe George BARRON married Elspet FALCONER and had 8 children- Isabel b 1830, Mary b 1831, William b 1835, Hugh b 1837, and John b 1839 are some of them...all born in Elgin

George's parents were William BARRON and Isabel DOW - probably born abt 1785 or so- they married in Bellie 1807 and had 2 children there- Jane b 1813 and George b 1807.

I think Jane was already in London by 1841 as she married a fellow called John Henry KERR ( a mariner) maybe abt 1837 and had a number of children ( their first born, Jane KERR , was born August 1837 in London).

Family stories say that the KERR family worked at Gordon Castle, but I am thinking it may have been the BARRON family or perhaps the HOSSACK family
( a Margaret HOSSACK married a KERR and I believe these are the parents of John Henry KERR b abt 1810.

If anyone can help find these families, I would be most grateful. I am trying to get the details for a descendent of these folk - she is 92, so i am rushing!

Many thanks

Jocelyn,
Sydney Australia

Hi Jocelyn,

Have you tried the Libindx -  the Local Heritage Service's index for Moray? It's a brilliant site and can be found at http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp

A quick look in the people search for Barron and Hossack brought up quite a lot of results.

Best wishes
Elaine

Many thanks for the website - I finally figured out how to use it and am having a truly wonderful time!

I may still need some help, but will re-post after I have finished getting the readily available clues to see what else may be found elsewhere.

Much appreciated!
Jocelyn

Hi Susan,

many thanks for the 1851 Census - I didn't realise you had posted the message and only just found it whilst looking for clues re my KERR's
The FreeCen project has them online now so I was also able to find them in 1841 as well!

Many thanks again for your help
