Title: Mannion or Manion
Post by: Penrhos on Monday 28 August 06 09:28 BST (UK)
Hi
Can anyone help with the spelling of Mannion? My grandfather was born George Mannion in 1906, mother Margaret Mannion living at 7 Brewery place Wrexham father unknown. The only Margaret I can find on the 1901 Census is spelt with 1 n, could it be the same one? Have found Margaret Mannion in Whitchurch could this be the one? How will I know for Sure?
Be greatfull for any advice as I,m new to this.
Thanks

Hello Penrhos

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

On the North Wales BMD:

http://www.northwalesbmd.org.uk/

There is one Margaret Manion born 1880 in Wrexham CB. If you go to the website and do a search, it will give you the local reference WM/059/12. The GRO one would be different.

This is more likely than the Whitchurch one.

There are 2 ns and 1 ns on the database. I would think that it depended on the enumerator/registrar.

Hi
Have looked at the north wales BMD and found
Margaret manion 1880 and her marriage to George Mitchell in 1907 angain with 1 n. Is it possible that inbetween she would register her son's birth with 2 n's.
Help this is driving me mad! ???

I think it is the most likely answer - the registrar would have written it down and maybe put down an extra n.

Check if there are any George Manions registered around that time. If not, I think it is the most likely.
