They had 9 children

Peter b. 28 Apr 1799

Jean b. 22 Jun 1806
John b. 08 Aug 1808
Charles b. 04 Apr 1814
all born in Falkirk, Stirlingshire

James Bell Dow (b.1794) married Jean Skean on 21 Sep 1814 at Saint Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Midlothian. They had 13 children all born North Leith, including a James Bell Dow b. 13 Oct 1815.

The name James Bell Dow is carried on through to the present.
Hope to hear from anyone researching this family.

Hi, still hoping that there is someone out there with any of the above names in their tree. After 5 years of researching this family, I have gathered a lot of information, but no one to share with, as it would appear that no one else is researching Dow surname.
I live in hope

Hi Gill,
Did a search for Dow tonight and found your postings.  Don't know if there is a link but I have researched my Dow's, many of whom were in Falkirk at least from 1840's and prior to that appear to hail from Perthshire (I have dates back to 1790's) with a James Dow who married a Margaret Millar in Fowlis Wester in 1792.

One branch of the Dows I have also discovered moved to Linlithgow with a David Dow who went on to have children in Philpstoun and Edinburgh.

I am still very much piecing this bit of my tree together.  Have you come across an Alexander Cummings Rutherford Dow in your research?  He is my G Grandfather on my mum's side and married an Elizabeth Cox Maxwell in Falkirk in 1868.  I have discovered a James Dow (flesher) who was the son of David Dow and Jane Main and brother of Alexander CR Dow.

I look forward to hearing if any of this is ringing bells with you.

Kind Regards
Eastend

Hi Gill,

I've just noticed from the names that you are researching at the bottom of your messages that you are also looking into Anderson, and Eaglesham, Eaglesome, as well as the Dows.  How spooky!   :o  Me too!! :D

I am looking into my married name...Dow... and am wondering if James Bell Dow and Jean Skean you have mentioned had a son George Cameron Dow born around 1832. This could be a possible link to my husbands great great grandfather Alexander Scott (George Cameron possibly being his father)

James Bell Dow and Jean Skean did indeed have a son named George Cameon Dow, born 27 July 1832. I dont have any further information on George though. Would Alexander Scott be the natural son of George though? Just wondering as they have different surnames.

Hi Gill,

I have been doing some Family History research for my Mum's friend and just found your posting.  As far as I can work out, my Mum's friend is a direct descendant of both James Bell Dow's mentioned in your original post.  She would love to get in touch with you.

Hi, the Anderson and Eaglesham / Eaglesomes are both from seperate branches on my family tree. Dow is on my paternal line, Anderson on my maternal line, and the Eaglesam / Eaglesome are from my husbands line
