Hi,
Wonder if anyone can help? My great grandad Samuel Whittingham disappears off the census records for 1901 though his wife and 2 kids are still there. I think he may have gone to fight in the Boer War. I read that all soldiers in that war would have received the South Africa Medal, how can I find out if one was awarded to him? He had a brother called George who died in 1901 aged 25, maybe they both went and only Samuel came back? They lived in Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire

hi Steve
if you want to know if he received the South Africa medal you will have to look through the South Africa medal rolls at the National Archives at Kew to find out.
good luck
Steve
